Role Description
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Business Operations and Finance will report to the Head of School and has overall responsibility for revenue management, budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and strategic leadership. A Director of Business Operations and Finance is a senior-level leader responsible for driving organizational efficiency, scaling processes, and executing strategic initiatives to maximize profitability. This person acts as a bridge between executive leadership and departments, managing cross-functional workflows, budgets, and operational performance metrics.
With a keen eye for detail and a strategic mindset, this person analyzes performance metrics, manages budgets, and works closely with senior management and the Finance Committee of the Board to devise long-term plans that align with the School’s mission and vision. This Director also manages cross-functional teams such as HR, IT and Facilities.
Key Responsibilities
· Financial : Oversee the school’s accounting and financial functions guiding budgeting processes, creating long-term financial plans and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
· Operational Strategy: Develops and implements strategic plans to improve productivity, quality, and overall company growth.
· Process Optimization: Streamlines internal systems, workflows, and procedures to eliminate bottlenecks and enhance performance.
· Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborates and manages departments such as Finance, HR, IT and Facilities to ensure synchronized operations.
· Performance Tracking: Analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor organizational health and reports on operational results.
· Resource Allocation: Manages budgets and allocates resources effectively to meet school goals.
· Project Management: Oversees key strategic projects, initiatives, or new school launches as sited in the strategic plan.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance; MBA preferred.
- Experience: Generally, 10+ years of experience in Finance, consulting, or corporate strategy, including leadership roles.
- Experience in a school setting or non-profit strongly preferred.
- Skills: Strong analytical abilities, financial acumen, and exceptional communication skills.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and thrive in fast-paced or ambiguous environments.

- Tools: Proficient in Project Management software, Blackbaud or similar system and Excel.
- Metrics: Cost reduction percentages, production cycle time, ROI on initiatives, and operational accuracy.
