Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Payroll/Accounting Specialist to join our finance team. This role is essential in managing payroll operations, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, and supporting various accounting functions across the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of payroll management, accounting software, and financial concepts, contributing to the smooth and compliant processing of employee compensation and organizational finances. This position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic environment committed to operational excellence and fiscal integrity.  Temporary for a leave of absence.   Located in Placentia.  Offering $30-34/hr.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately and efficiently using systems such as Paychex, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of payroll transactions, including deductions, benefits administration, and tax filings.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing and vendor payments using accounting software like Yardi.
• Support benefits administration activities by updating employee data and processing related transactions.
• Perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy across various financial statements and ledgers.
• Assist with month-end closing procedures, including data entry and analysis of financial reports.
• Collaborate with human resources and finance teams to ensure accurate data entry within HRIS systems such as Kronos or PeopleSoft.
• Conduct analysis of payroll data to identify discrepancies or errors and implement corrective actions.
• Support non-profit or governmental accounting processes as needed, adhering to relevant standards.
• Maintain compliance with tax regulations by preparing necessary reports and filings related to payroll taxes.

Qualifications

• 5 years of proven experience in payroll management, accounting, or finance roles with familiarity in systems such as Paychex and Yardi.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, general ledger reconciliation, and journal entries.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as Paychex and Yardi, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of financial concepts related to benefits administration, accounts payable/receivable, and tax compliance.
• Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy; familiarity with 10 key typing is preferred.
• Ability to analyze financial data effectively and identify discrepancies promptly.
• Experience working with human resources systems (HRIS) for employee data management.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Familiarity with non-profit or governmental accounting standards is a plus.
