Accountant

A Brief Overview The Accountant performs various duties to support the accounting function's goal of timeliness and accuracy including journal entry preparation, general ledger analysis and reconciliation, and monthly financial reporting both internally and to business partners. This role ensures proper accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and prepares financial reporting packages to meet internal and external requirements. This role will ensure the integrity of accounting information by researching account issues for compliance and by establishing quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. What you will do Obtains necessary data and documentation from property and business unit personnel to prepare and analyze journal entries on both GAAP and tax basis. This could include standard recurring entries, applicable reclassifications or adjustments, review of all income and expenses, accruals, overhead allocation, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions. Prepares and/or reviews account reconciliation schedules as needed to analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accurate posting of financial information and propose corrections to the general ledger as necessary. Reviews/approves cash posting by Accounting Clerk. Prepares and/or reviews general ledger coding for cash entries, fixed assets, accounts payable, reclassifications and adjustments, and wire transfers, as needed. Ensures timely completion of any required accounting checklists. Prepares, compiles, and analyzes support for monthly reporting and/or loan draw packages for submittal to lending institutions and external business partners. Analyzes and investigates unusual variances. Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including statements of cash flows. Assists in the preparation of required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Monitors progress against established budgets, analyzes and investigates unusual variances, and communicates findings. Provides support schedules used in budgeting, debt covenant compliance, and other analyses. Assists/guides the Accounting Clerk with daily accounting duties to ensure accuracy. Gains a working understanding of relevant project agreements. Prepares analyses and documentation necessary for efficient quarterly reviews, compliance audits, and annual audits. Maintains effective communication with other departments as a basis for assuring complete and accurate financial information and appropriate documentation. Ensures the integrity of financial data by implementing appropriate internal controls. Prepares monthly bank account reconciliations, as necessary. Responds to independent auditor inquiries, as needed. Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA or CPA eligible preferred. Experience Qualifications one - two years of accounting experience required for the Accountant role required. Experience with Yardi, Workday, or other ERP system preferred preferred. Experience in real estate industry preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data, and draw logical conclusions. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines. Analytical and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and MS Office. Ability to pay close attention to detail and work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Requires a detail-oriented, independent thinker who can be a part of a team and demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving, and results. Manage multiple tasks, projects, and prioritize. Must be a team player, have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and desire to succeed. Licenses and Certifications Certified Public Accountant (CPA) CPA or CPA eligible preferred. Compensation We are committed to offering competitive and equitable compensation.The hiring range for this position is generally between $Min - $Mid (or Max if needed), exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus.Final salaries will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, licenses, certifications, and/or experience.
