FLASH Harm Reduction Specialist

West Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, FL, US 8 days ago Requisition ID: 1006 FLASH Exchange is Palm Beach County’s historical first Syringe Exchange Program. The program allows any person to exchange used syringes for sterile ones. The exchanges are 1 to 1. The Harm Reduction Specialist should be well versed in social justice ideals, have a basic understanding of drug policy, and demonstrate a broad, diverse understanding of recovery, while maintaining compassion and open mindedness. Responsibilities of the Harm Reduction Specialist include but are not limited to, assisting the Site Supervisor in daily operations and tasks. Tasks being daily inventory and upkeep of the mobile unit, restocking of the mobile unit as needed, keeping track of and reporting data via REDcap, basic engagement and enrollment of participants into the FLASH program, and to maintain a friendly attitude in order to welcome participants. Please note that this position is outside and you will be working outside during site times. Please do not apply if that is an issue. Essential Functions: Following a morning daily checklist to ensure the mobile unit is stocked and fueled for the day's route. Assist site supervisor with driving to FLASH locations to provide services. Engaging new and current participants with compassion and professionalism. Develop and maintain professional relationships with participants. Educate participants on local resources and write referrals as needed. Assisting Site Supervisor in collecting and submitting crucial data. Possess an understanding of diverse recovery models. Collection, safe disposal, and distribution of equipment. Assist in coordination with linkage to care (HIV, HCV, behavioral health), linkage to substance use treatment, shelter, etc. and subsequent patient navigation and follow up. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent Possession of a valid driver's license, adequate insurance (per state law) Need to be able to drive a mobile bus. Use of person centered language Knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices Effective Communication Skills Self starting and reliable Ability to lift heavy items, up to 50 lbs. Ability to navigate Google Workspace Technologically literate (good with computer programs, iPads and computers) Preferred Qualifications Direct lived experience with substance use Knowledge of blood borne pathogens Knowledge of/certificate on HIPAA compliance Knowledge of diverse recovery models Experience in working with underserved populations OTHER FUNCTIONS This is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
