INTRODUCTION What We Can Achieve Together: The Associate Director of Development III(ADoD) for NewYork develops, implements, and manages effective multi‑year strategies and plans for the cultivation of prospects and the solicitation of gifts, primarily from individual donors and may include some corporations and foundations. The ADoD will be joining a high performing team, raising $45million+ annually as part of the One Future: Together We Find A Way Campaign with the goal of raising $500million+ from the NY Global Market. The ADoD will work with development, conservation and executive leaders to help fulfill the NewYork Division’s ambitious revenue goals. This position will also collaborate with team members to coordinate gifts for work beyond NewYork (across North America and in 80+ countries around the world) as opportunities arise. RESPONSIBILITIES Manage a portfolio of 40–75 donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $750,000 once the portfolio is developed. Responsible for 40–75 visits and 120–225 moves annually. Annual fundraising goal of $2,000,000+ once the portfolio has matured, along with a goal for bequest notifications. Develop qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of high‑net‑worth individuals interested in supporting TNC’s conservation efforts in NewYork, across North America, and globally. Identify potential prospects, research, and build a pipeline of new donors. Facilitate and coordinate all communication with prospective donors, developing positive relationships between TNC, the prospective donors and related organizations and individuals. Evaluate various gift opportunities and giving vehicles and recommend the most suitable approach for a particular donor at a particular point in time. Direct negotiations for complex, high‑profile or sensitive agreements. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal contacts such as conservation staff, senior leaders, development operations, finance and other fundraisers in NewYork and other Business Units. Assist in the development and refinement of the strategy for, and creation of, written communications from TNC leadership in NewYork and of Global work, as appropriate to a donor’s particular interests. Participate in gift solicitations to fund organization‑wide priorities, in addition to specific opportunities in NewYork, to enhance the overall development efforts of TNC. Conceive, organize, manage and often participate in regular events and trips for prospective and current donors. Convey persuasively the mission and campaign priorities to varied groups, including major donors, corporate executives, board members and others who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity. Stay abreast of TNC priorities and accomplishments and leverage local‑to‑global storytelling in conjunction with the One Future Campaign. Financial responsibility for setting and meeting fundraising objectives, reporting on and evaluating results, aligning regularly with team goals, and developing corrective strategies. Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements; be alert to ethical compliance issues. Implement and lead multiple collaborative and complex projects, directing work of team members, managing budget, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability. Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information. May supervise staff. At times and as needed, travel on short notice, work long hours and weekends; work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Bachelor’s degree and 7years related experience. Experience in cultivating and ultimately stewarding the development of a pipeline of new donors. Experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with constituents such as major donors and foundations. Experience soliciting and closing six‑to‑seven‑figure gifts, including experience with planned giving. Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors. Experience working with fundraising principles and practices. Experience, comfort, and facility with databases/CRM’s. Experience, coursework, or other training in current and evolving trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving. Ability to travel when necessary. Ability to be on the East End of Long Island regularly during the summer months and as needed throughout the off‑season. Experience working proactively and independently while seamlessly communicating with a team of colleagues across multiple time zones. Experience communicating, both verbally and via written form, to a range of audiences. Experience maintaining confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information. Desired: Ability to design and implement fundraising strategies, including cultivation, solicitation and recognition strategies. Ability to determine an individual’s interests, capacity and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the Conservancy’s work. Demonstrated experience using listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors and Volunteer Leaders. Attention to detail. Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles. Advanced knowledge of complex charitable gift planning. Proven ability to negotiate complex, high‑profile or sensitive agreements. Familiarity with BBCRM or similar data management system. Interest in the environment, community wellbeing, natural resources, or science a plus. Valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. SALARY The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $145,000–$160,000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
