Diesel Mechanic
Under the direction of the Director of Transportation or designee, the Diesel Mechanic performs skilled, journeyman-level mechanical duties in the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of district vehicles and equipment. The position supports a diverse fleet including diesel, gasoline, CNG, propane, electric, hybrid-electric vehicles, and other alternative-fuel equipment. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, safety inspections, diagnostics, record keeping, and ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Requirements / Qualifications:
• Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver's License, Class A or B, with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements. • Valid California Driver's License • Current Medical Certificate • ASE Master School Bus Technician Certification (Preferred) • Current CPR and First Aid Certifications (Preferred)
Education and Experience: • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade • Three (3) years of recent paid experience as a journeyman-level mechanic, preferably working with mixed-fuel fleets.
