Assistant Fund Controller

Assistant Fund Controller Our client, a real estate investment management firm, is seeking an Assistant Fund Controller to join its growing finance team. Location: San Francisco, CA. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with in-office expectations 3 days per week. Job Description: This role offers broad exposure to fund accounting, investor reporting, financial reporting, treasury activities, and fund operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys managing complex investment structures, mentoring team members, and partnering with stakeholders across finance, operations, and external service providers. Responsibilities:Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for assigned investment vehicles and related entities. Review financial statements, investor reporting packages, capital account activity, and supporting schedules. Manage cash forecasting, liquidity planning, capital activity, and treasury-related processes. Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, third-party service providers, and other external stakeholders to support reporting and compliance requirements. Oversee accounting for investment vehicles, including reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and financial analysis. Support investor communications and respond to financial reporting requests and inquiries. Research technical accounting matters and assist with the implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements. Mentor junior team members and collaborate on acquisitions, financings, new investment structures, and other special projects. Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate, private equity, investment management, financial services, or a related industry. Public accounting experience strongly preferred; CPA preferred. Strong understanding of fund accounting, partnership accounting, financial reporting, and investment structures. Experience working with audits, tax reporting processes, and external service providers. Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities. Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
