Patient Transporter

Location Parkland: LL BLK 300 Primary Purpose Transports patients around PHHS by wheelchair, stretcher, beds, and gurney to ensure patient's safety. Minimum Specifications Education: None. Experience: Prefer 6 months of experience in healthcare and/or customer service. Certification/Registration/Licensure Must have current CPR-Heartsaver course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross Rescuer, Military Training Network. Required Tests for Placement Not specified. Skills or Special Abilities Must be able to read and write. Must have very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent Parkland in a positive manner. Must exhibit caring, service-oriented behaviors toward people encountered and be able to defuse emotionally charged situations. Must be able to apply sound judgement toward satisfying a variety of questions and problems from patients and visitors. Must be able to follow both oral and written directions. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel. Must have basic math skills. Must complete within 90 days of hire and/or placement a Preventative Back Injury & Proper Lift Technique class and demonstrate proficiency. Responsibilities Safely transports patients via stretcher or wheelchair to departments/areas of PHHS to help safeguard patients while on the campus. May include the transport of supplies and belongings during discharges within set standards. Assists in the transport of critical care patients in unison with the appropriate clinical staff e.g. transport patient from ICU to Radiology. Maintains a positive working relationship with other area of hospital, nurses, physicians and other Parkland staff in order to facilitate effective communication. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor and implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of Parkland. Stays abreast of the latest developments in customer service by attending in‑house seminars/workshops and reading internal publications. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the Patient Transportation area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. Job Accountabilities Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction.
