General Manager

Arizona Western College (AWC) seeks an experienced, collaborative executive to serve as General Manager of KAWC/KOFA Colorado River Public Media. Reporting to the AWC Vice President of Advancement, the General Manager serves as the chief executive of KAWC and provides strategic leadership, financial stewardship, and organizational direction for the College’s public media service. Working closely with senior staff, donors, community partners, AWC leadership, and other stakeholders, the General Manager advances KAWC’s mission while ensuring the organization’s long‑term sustainability and community impact. KAWC serves Yuma and La Paz counties through trusted local journalism, NPR programming, music, arts and cultural programming, and community engagement. As a licensed service of Arizona Western College, KAWC also serves as a learning partner, providing students with opportunities for experiential learning alongside experienced media professionals. The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of KAWC, including: Providing strategic leadership and organizational direction for the station. Ensuring long‑term financial sustainability through sound fiscal management, philanthropy, underwriting, grants, strategic partnerships, and other revenue‑generating activities. Leading, coaching, and supporting senior staff while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and public service. Representing KAWC throughout the community and within Arizona Western College. Supporting KAWC’s role as a learning partner with Arizona Western College by fostering meaningful opportunities for student engagement and professional development. Providing executive oversight of station operations while safeguarding editorial independence and advancing KAWC’s mission and strategic priorities, in alignment with the College District’s mission and vision. Required Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, marketing, nonprofit management, journalism, public administration, or a related field. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience with demonstrated success leading teams, managing financial resources, and advancing organizational goals. Demonstrated experience in fundraising, business development, philanthropy, grant development, underwriting, sales, or other revenue‑generating activities. Experience supervising, coaching, and developing professional staff. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and public communication skills. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered. Preferred Qualifications A master’s degree in a related field. Leadership experience within public media, higher education, nonprofit organizations, journalism, or other mission‑driven organizations. Experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives and managing organizational change. Familiarity with public media’s mission, values, governance, and community service model. Experience working with governing boards, advisory bodies, or volunteer leadership. Experience developing partnerships with educational institutions, community organizations, or governmental agencies.
