Fire Alarm Technician / Foreman
This role leads ongoing fire alarm retrofit, repair, and system-update work at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The position is a working foreman role, combining hands-on technical duties with day-to-day leadership of a field crew of approximately 68 technicians. You will coordinate manpower, materials, schedules, quality, documentation, and client communication while overseeing work in an existing fire alarm environment operating on a Honeywell platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor fire alarm technicians and installers on active construction and retrofit projects.
- Plan daily manpower, materials, and production to meet project schedules and quality expectations.
- Supervise an average field crew of approximately 68 employees in a commercial airport environment.
- Perform and oversee fire alarm installation, retrofit, device replacement, and system updates.
- Troubleshoot existing commercial fire alarm systems and diagnose issues within live environments.
- Support and direct conduit installation, wire pulling, terminations, and related electrical work.
- Coordinate project access, construction windows, and changing schedules within an active airport.
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including as-built updates, redlines, and daily reports.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal leadership, client representatives, and airport personnel.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.
- Hold team members accountable for performance, safety, and quality while maintaining productive working relationships.
- Remain hands-on in the field when needed, while knowing when to step back to focus on planning, documentation, and oversight.
- Support service and troubleshooting activities as needed to maintain system reliability throughout the project.
Essential Skills
- Established foreman-level experience leading construction or fire alarm crews, ideally supervising 68 field employees.
- Strong hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm installation, retrofit, service, and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to understand existing fire alarm systems, diagnose problems, replace devices, and complete repairs.
- Experience with at least one major fire alarm platform such as Honeywell, Notifier, Siemens, Edwards/EST, Simplex, FCI, or comparable systems.
- Strong troubleshooting ability in complex, live commercial environments.
- NICET Level II in fire alarm systems strongly preferred; NICET Level I with documented progress toward Level II may be considered.
- CSA II or comparable fire alarm certification may be considered based on overall qualifications.
- Solid commercial electrical experience, including conduit installation and wire management.
- Blueprint and documentation experience, including reading plans and updating field documentation.
- Client-facing experience with the ability to represent the company professionally in a high-profile setting.
- Valid drivers license with a driving record acceptable for project and fleet requirements.
- Ability to meet airport badging, driving, and applicable experience requirements for a secure facility.
- Comfort working primarily night shifts and flexibility to temporarily move to day shifts when project conditions require.
- Strong planning, organization, and follow-through skills to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with crews, leadership, and client stakeholders.
- Ability to safely use basic hand tools and work at heights on ladders and within active construction areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in airport or other secure-facility environments.
- Honeywell fire alarm experience, particularly in retrofit and service contexts.
- Notifier or other major manufacturer experience supporting installation and troubleshooting.
- Service and troubleshooting experience beyond new construction, including live system work.
- Experience in commercial construction and retrofit projects with complex phasing and access constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate as-built documentation and project records.
- Experience coordinating with multiple trades and stakeholders in occupied or operational facilities.
- Willingness to remain in field leadership roles rather than transitioning into project management, if desired.
Why Work Here?
You will join a stable, family-owned electrical contractor known for long-tenured employees and a strong commitment to field leadership. The role offers a direct-hire leadership opportunity on a high-profile airport project with continued project opportunities beyond the current assignment. You can earn strong hourly income through a night-shift foreman premium and receive a monthly vehicle reimbursement while leading the project, along with benefits and a 401(k) match. The organization values hands-on leaders and provides a path to grow and remain in field leadership without being forced into project management, supporting long-term career stability and work-life balance.
Work Environment
This is a field-based position located at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport within an active, security-sensitive environment. Work primarily occurs during night-shift construction windows, typically four 10-hour shifts experience around 8:00 p.m., generally Monday evening through Friday morning. Schedule flexibility is essential, as airport operations, international flights, security restrictions, and construction access can change available work windows. The role involves walking active construction areas, climbing ladders, using hand tools, and participating in installation and troubleshooting activities as needed. You will work around existing fire alarm systems on a Honeywell platform, coordinating with airport personnel and other trades while maintaining strict safety and security standards.
