Maintenance Staff

Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, renovation, and general upkeep of District buildings, grounds, and facilities. Work includes carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and electrical repairs; preventative maintenance; snow and ice removal; athletic field maintenance; and other general maintenance duties as required.

Under the direction of the Director and/or Assistant Director of Facilities:

• Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work involving carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and other building systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs on building systems, equipment, fixtures, doors, hardware, furniture, flooring, ceilings, and related components.
• Troubleshoots building and equipment problems, performs appropriate repairs, and identifies conditions requiring specialized service or replacement.
• Reads and interprets work orders, equipment manuals, building plans, diagrams, and drawings as necessary.
• Uses hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and District vehicles and equipment in the performance of assigned work.
• Assists with grounds and athletic field maintenance and participates in snow and ice removal operations.
• Inspects facilities and equipment and reports or recommends necessary repairs, replacement, or corrective action.
• Obtains materials and supplies as needed and assists other Facilities Department employees and contractors when required.
• Follows applicable safety procedures and maintains appropriate records of completed work.
• Responds to after-hours alarms, emergencies, weather events, and other operational needs as required.
• Utilizes email, electronic work-order systems, and other District software necessary to complete assigned duties.
• Performs other related maintenance duties as assigned.

Receives general supervision from the Director of Facilities and Assistant Director of Facilities.

Working knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment, practices, and methods associated with building maintenance and the skilled trades. Experience in commercial, institutional, educational, or similar facility maintenance is preferred. Must possess the ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems; work independently and as part of a team; follow written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions; communicate effectively; and appropriately prioritize assigned work.

Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting and carrying medium to heavy materials and equipment, and working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Must be available for occasional after-hours work, emergencies, and snow and ice removal operations.

Valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License required.
