Job Description (role in organization)
Organizers at CTUL are the primary connection with our membership and essential to building worker power. Organizers make initial contact with workers and develop their leadership within the organization and specific campaigns by listening, understanding self-interest and barriers, agitating, and supporting workers to take risks and grow in their leadership. Organizers do this through targeted outreach by visiting worksites or community locations, having one on one conversations, holding small group meetings, and facilitating group meetings or training sessions, building trusts and developing organizing relationships. Often they support a worker in fighting back against a workplace violation through legal channels or through small campaigns and through this process build worker leadership to ultimately fight for systemic change. 

Primary Job Responsibilities (Essential duties & responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following)

  • Operates in alignment with CTUL’s mission, vision, strategy, and organizational priorities
  • Support workers who come into the organization in knowing their rights and how to defend their workplace rights
  • Carry out the Defensores work, including responding to voicemails, meeting with workers individually for intake on violations claims, facilitating monthly Defensores meetings, and inviting workers to said meetings.
  • Collect, input and use data consistently
  • Regular one on one conversations with workers
  • Meet regularly with the team of organizers and staff to evaluate and improve work of the team and yourself as an individual
  • Responsible, along with the organizing team for monthly member meetings
  • Regular facilitation of group meetings
  • Regular worksite or community outreach
  • Track workers and create opportunities for their leadership development
  • Commit workers to public action including direct action, speaking publicly, serving on task forces and work stoppages/strikes.
  • Commit workers to internal leadership roles in the organization or campaign and provide proper support
  • Participate in, take roles, and sometimes plan Direct Actions as part of a campaign
  • Consistent communication with team and direct supervisor about work and schedule
  • General responsibility and follow through on commitments

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with other staff
  • Participate in fundraising for CTUL
  • Support other staff when necessary in meeting CTUL’s goals
  • Support CTUL by providing translation during meetings
  • Flexible to the needs of carrying out the organizational mission

Required Skills

  • Ability to listen to people and identify what motivates them
  • Skilled in organizing conversations and obtaining commitments
  • Ability to manage one’s own schedule and time
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Google Docs, Zoom
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English/Spanish 
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google programs, such as Docs, Sheets, etc.
  • Facilitation Skills

Other Job Requirements

  • For some positions, a car is necessary.
  • Have a flexible schedule, including some early mornings, nights and weekends

Salary & Benefits
CTUL has a tiered salary range set by the Staff and Board based on the principles of economic justice and inclusion. This is a salaried position currently compensated between $61,500 – $63,500 per year with annual raises as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This full-time position will normally work 80 hours per pay period, including some work on evenings and weekends. Benefits include: 3 weeks paid vacation, unlimited sick days, 7 recuperation days, 19 paid holidays, 90% employer-paid medical and dental insurance for you and your immediate family, 100% employer-paid vision, life and disability insurance, and an annual end of year bonus of 5% of your annual salary which can be used towards a retirement fund. 

CTUL operates under a collective bargaining agreement with Minnesota Newspaper & Communication Guild, TNG-CWA Local 37002. The LIG organizer position is represented for collective bargaining purposes by the Guild.

  • Reúnase periódicamente con el equipo de organizadores y personal para evaluar y mejorar el trabajo del equipo y el suyo propio como individuo.
  • Responsable, junto con el equipo organizador, de las reuniones mensuales de los miembros.
  • Facilitación periódica de reuniones de grupo.
  • Actividades regulares en el lugar de trabajo o en la comunidad.
  • Realizar un seguimiento de los trabajadores y crear oportunidades para su desarrollo de liderazgo.
  • Comprometer a los trabajadores a la acción públicaincluyendoacciones directas, discursos públicos, participación en grupos de trabajo y paros laborales/huelgas.
  • Comprometa a los trabajadores con roles de liderazgo interno en la organización o campaña y bríndeles el apoyo adecuado.
  • Participar, asumir roles y, en ocasiones, planificar acciones directas como parte de una campaña.
  • Comunicación constantecon equipoy al supervisor directo sobre el trabajo y el horario
  • Responsabilidad general y cumplimiento de los compromisos.

Responsabilidades organizativas

  • Entablar relaciones con otros miembros del personal.

Salario y beneficios
CTUL cuenta con una escala salarial escalonada establecida por el personal y la junta directiva, basada en los principios de justicia económica e inclusión. Este es un puesto asalariado con una remuneración actual de entre $61,500 y $63,500 anuales, con aumentos anuales según lo estipulado en el Convenio Colectivo.
