What Your Day Will Look Like:
As a Field Biologist you will support transportation, infrastructure, and environmental projects across Texas. In this role, you will conduct field investigations, environmental assessments, wetland delineations, and permitting activities for a variety of transportation projects. Working closely with engineers, planners, and environmental scientists, you will help clients navigate federal, state, and local environmental regulations while supporting project delivery from planning through construction. The ideal candidate will have experience with wetland and stream delineations, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) permitting, and natural resource surveys. Experience supporting energy or oil & gas projects is a plus, particularly in navigating complex environmental permitting requirements across Texas.
What You\'ll Do:
- Conduct wetland delineations, stream assessments, and jurisdictional determinations in accordance with USACE methodologies and regulatory guidance.
- Prepare technical reports, delineation documentation, permit applications, and supporting environmental analyses for transportation and infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate and secure federal, state, and local environmental permits, including Section 404 and Section 401 permits, Nationwide Permits, Individual Permits, and related environmental approvals.
- Perform field investigations to identify sensitive environmental resources, including wetlands, waters of the U.S., threatened and endangered species habitat, and other regulated ecological features.
- Support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation efforts by providing biological resource evaluations and environmental technical studies.
- Collaborate with transportation engineers, project managers, planners, and regulatory agencies to minimize environmental impacts and maintain project schedules.
- Conduct agency coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and other regulatory stakeholders.
- Provide environmental compliance support during construction, including permit condition monitoring, inspections, and field documentation.
- Assist with threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, vegetation surveys, and ecological studies as required for project development.
- Support environmental due diligence and permitting efforts for utility, pipeline, renewable energy, and oil & gas projects when needed.
- Maintain detailed field records utilizing GPS, GIS, mapping tools, and mobile data collection technologies.
- Mentor junior environmental staff and contribute to proposal development, scope preparation, and project planning activities.
What You\'ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources, Wildlife Biology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience conducting biological fieldwork and environmental permitting for transportation, infrastructure, utility, or energy projects.
- Demonstrated experience performing wetland delineations and stream assessments in accordance with USACE standards.
- Experience preparing and obtaining USACE Section 404 permits and coordinating with regulatory agencies.
- Knowledge of NEPA processes and environmental compliance requirements for transportation projects.
- Familiarity with Texas environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Experience using GPS, GIS, ArcGIS, or other environmental mapping and data collection tools.
- Strong technical writing, field documentation, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to travel throughout Texas and work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
