Job Description Position: SST Consultant Reports to: SST Director Employment Status: Full‑time, Contract: 215 days Salary Range: $80,000 – $84,000 (based on qualifications and experience) Location: State Support Team – Region 7 Service Area Start Date: July 1, 2026 Description Ohio’s State Support Teams (SST) are regional extensions of the Department of Education and Workforce. SST Consultants partner with prioritized schools and districts to establish the foundations of integrated Multi‑Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) aligned to Ohio’s framework, building coherent systems that strengthen instruction and improve adult practices. They sustain a particular emphasis on students with disabilities while advancing statewide priorities such as the Science of Reading and the K‑12 Math Plan, integrating academic and non‑academic systems, and ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements. Their work strengthens student outcomes in literacy, math, and chronic absenteeism. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred), aligned to the area of primary responsibility (instructional improvement, special education, reading and literacy, data analysis, or related field). Three to five years of successful classroom teaching or instructional improvement planning and implementation, special education administration, or related experience, and a license appropriate to the profession. Candidates will demonstrate: Knowledge of improvement planning processes, including a strategic problem‑solving approach. Effective coaching using the Department’s coaching model and consultation skills in a school or district setting. Ability to implement and monitor improvement strategies. Ability to deliver high‑quality professional learning and technical assistance. Understanding of IDEA and ESSA provisions. Basic data‑analysis skills and understanding of Ohio’s accountability system. Effective evidence‑based processes and instructional practices, including components of Ohio’s integrated MTSS. Universal Design for Learning and differentiated instruction. Understanding of PBIS. Specially designed instruction and provision of FAPE in the least restrictive environment. Understanding of Ohio’s Plan for K‑12 Mathematics. Language and literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading and structured literacy, including completion of required professional learning modules. Statewide Non‑Negotiables for All SST Consultants Integrated MTSS is the organizing framework. All services are delivered in alignment with Ohio’s Integrated MTSS and include academic (literacy and math) and non‑academic (student engagement, behavior, attendance) supports. Service Delivery and Alignment Prioritize time and resources for schools identified through the Regional Needs Assessment. Anchor direct services in Regional Service Plans and Service Delivery Agreements. Provide direct, embedded services mainly at the classroom and building level. Data‑Driven Practice and Continuous Improvement Use academic, behavioral, attendance, and special education data to guide decisions and refine supports for all students and student groups. Commit to using all relevant deliverables (RSP, SDA, PPR, DSE) and feedback from partners to self‑evaluate and adjust practices. Collaboration and Professional Standards Build and maintain collaborative relationships with school/district colleagues, SST peers, Department staff, and Case Managers to ensure aligned practices and shared problem‑solving. Follow guidance on priorities while actively listening, seeking clarification, and implementing agreed‑upon strategies. Communicate clearly and meet timelines for all deliverables (e.g., SDAs, DSE). Ensure alignment with Department priorities; accurately represent its work. Ground recommendations in evidence‑based practices, maintain confidentiality, and uphold professional ethics. Additional Job Information Position requires travel. A valid Ohio Driver’s License and a safe, functional motorized vehicle are necessary. Documentation of a clear criminal record required. Meet all mandated public health requirements (e.g., negative TB test). Competence in using computer, telephone, projector, copy machine, and other office equipment. Additional Working Conditions Salaried position; may require extended hours. Work may occur under time constraints to meet deadlines.
