The Controller serves as the senior accounting leader for Axia Women's Health and is responsible for the integrity of the organization's financial reporting, accounting operations, treasury activities, and internal control environment. Reporting to the CFO, this role partners closely with Finance, Revenue Cycle Management, Operations, and executive leadership to ensure accurate reporting, scalable processes, and strong financial governance across a rapidly growing, private equity-backed healthcare organization.

The Controller will lead a high-performing accounting team while serving as a strategic business partner across the organization. This individual will bring deep technical accounting expertise, healthcare industry experience, and a proven ability to support growth, drive process improvements, and deliver meaningful financial insights in a complex, multi-site environment.

Essential Functions:

• Accounting Leadership & Financial Reporting
  • Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, cash management, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Manage multi-entity consolidations, intercompany transactions, and accounting related to Management Services Agreements (MSAs).
  • Prepare and present financial results, key performance indicators, and variance analyses to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Partner with FP&A and business leaders to support forecasting, budgeting, strategic planning, and financial decision-making.
• Healthcare Accounting & Revenue Cycle Partnership
  • Oversee revenue recognition processes and related controls to ensure accurate reporting of healthcare revenue.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Cycle Management and operational leadership to validate financial results and support performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for physician practice, MSO, and other healthcare-related transactions.
  • Collaborate across Finance, Operations, Human Resources, and Revenue Cycle teams to drive consistency and accuracy in financial processes
• Audit Compliance and Risk Management
  • Lead annual external audit activities and serve as the primary liaison with auditors and external advisors.
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting regulations and standards.
  • Develop, enhance, and monitor internal controls, accounting policies, and financial governance processes.
  • Support organizational readiness for acquisitions, financing transactions, audits, and other strategic initiatives.
• Treasury, Systems & Process Improvement
  • Oversee treasury operations and manage relationships with banking partners, lenders, auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers, and financial service vendors.
  • Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, reporting capabilities, systems, and controls.
  • Lead automation, system integration, and reporting initiatives that improve efficiency, scalability, and visibility across the organization.
  • Identify and implement best practices that enhance operational effectiveness and support continued growth
• Corporate Governance & Entity Management
  • Oversee entity management activities, including registrations, annual reports, franchise tax filings, business licenses, and other corporate compliance requirements.
  • Partner with Legal and external service providers to maintain corporate records and ensure all entities remain in good standing across multiple states.
• Leadership & Strategic Partnership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting organization, including four direct manager reports and their teams.
  • Serve as a trusted business partner to operational leaders, physician groups, and executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and Finance leadership team to support key organizational priorities and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide accounting leadership for acquisitions, integrations, growth initiatives, and business transformation efforts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Directly manages four Accounting Managers, including oversight of payroll and accounts payable functions.
• Provides leadership, coaching, and development for a high-performing accounting organization.

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations.
• Proven experience leading month-end close, annual audits, and multi-entity consolidations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead change, improve processes, and scale accounting infrastructure to support growth.
• Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Experience partnering with executive leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, process automation, and dashboard development.
• Working knowledge of multi-state entity management, business filings and registrations, and coordination with registered agents and financial vendors.
• Proven ability to build, develop, and lead high-performing accounting teams in a fast-paced environment.

Experience and Education

• Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of accounting teams.
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or comparable accounting leadership role.
  • Healthcare, physician practice management, MSO, or other multi-site healthcare experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, multi-entity consolidations, and internal controls.
  • Experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, and external audit processes.
  • Experience operating within a high-growth and/or private equity-backed organization.
  • Proven leadership, team development, and cross-functional business partnership skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
• Preferred
  • CPA designation.
  • Revenue cycle management and healthcare revenue recognition experience.
  • Combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
  • Big Four public accounting background.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or rapidly growing organizations.
  • Experience with systems such as Great Plains, NetSuite, Tableau, Power BI, or comparable platforms.
