Human Resources Generalist

Human Resources Generalist will perform general duties related to the operations of the Human Resources office.

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

• Maintain personnel files;
• Filing documents for HR department/Benefits;
• Prepare general correspondence, memorandums, reports, and other materials;
• Prepare purchase orders, physical reimbursement requests for substitutes as needed;
• Coordinate substitute teacher orientations;
• Coordinate new hire orientation sessions;
• Assist in performing fingerprint background checks for all volunteers, and new employees and coaches;
• Maintain confidential information of office related information;
• Assist in activities related to licensure to ensure that professional staff are in compliance with the VDOE's licensure regulations;
• Maintain monthly absence report for the central office; add and update employee absence requests;
• May serve as coordinator and assist with the volunteer database (Transact);
• Process Verification of Employment requests, to include 403B request forms;
• Maintain and process worker's compensation claims;
• Assist in tracking and filing for Family Medical Leave;
• Computer work to include electronic scanning, Talent Ed/PowerSchool systems (Recruit and Hire, Records and Perform), Microsoft Office Word & Excel, and all Google Suite applications;
• Assist staff and administration as needed;
• Schedule paraprofessionals for Para Pro testing;
• Assist with hiring and recruiting;
• Assist with recruiting and attendance at job fairs as needed; and
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Human Resources.

Minimum requirements to perform work include:

• Associate's degree;
• Extensive knowledge of excel;
• At least three (3) years of Human Resources or general business experience;
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from college, including or supplemented by courses in benefits, human resources and other general office practices and procedures may be accepted;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Knowledge of Microsoft and Google applications.
• Knowledge of state rules and regulations regarding conducting criminal history checks.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing including demonstrated skill in reading and interpreting documents, filling out verification forms, and speaking to individuals and groups.
• Ability to respond to general & specific questions regarding basic employee benefits, procedures, and processes.
• Ability to display a high degree of judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Ability to effectively deal with persons in difficult and stressful situations.
• Ability to follow multiple-step directions, manage multiple priorities and work accurately and independently.
• Ability to collect data and create documents to support data findings.
• Must be highly organized.

Physical demands:

Work is typically performed in the central office and throughout the division. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office may be required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Work environment:

Work environment exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

Evaluation:

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
