Maintenance Mechanic 3rd Shift

This role is for an experienced Maintenance Mechanic working on 3rd shift (9:00 p.m. 5:30 a.m.) in a large, high-volume bakery production plant in Santa Ana, CA. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production, utilities, and facility equipment, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of ovens, mixers, conveyor systems, and packaging equipment. The position requires working six days per week on either a SundayFriday or MondaySaturday schedule and supporting continuous production in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform all maintenance tasks in a safe, efficient, and organized manner.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair general production equipment, utilities systems, and facility infrastructure to minimize downtime.
• Properly lubricate equipment, bearings, and gearboxes according to manufacturer specifications and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and malfunctions, diagnosing issues and implementing effective repairs.
• Inspect belts, rollers, gears, sprockets, chains, and related components for wear and replace or repair them prior to failure.
• Rebuild pumps, valves, gearboxes, and other general mechanical equipment as needed.
• Perform pipe fitting and welding on various metals and materials for equipment installation, modification, and repair.
• Conduct maintenance and repair of facility components, including plumbing, doors, walls, floors, roof, and ceilings.
• Maintain equipment parts, tools, and oil/grease barrels in a clean, orderly condition and ensure they are stored in the proper locations.
• Support the training and onboarding of new mechanic employees by sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Install new production and facility equipment as required, ensuring proper setup and functionality.
• Repair and fabricate guards, guides, rails, and related safety or support structures as needed.
• Provide maintenance support to other areas of the plant when required to meet production needs.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and correct mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and minor electrical issues on process and facility equipment.
• Use manufacturer manuals, technical documentation, and equipment specifications to keep machinery in proper working condition.
• Collaborate closely with the inventory function to ensure critical and spare parts are available when needed.
• Document all parts taken from the stock room accurately to prevent discrepancies during inventory cycle counts.
• Follow the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, completing scheduled tasks on time and documenting work performed in the appropriate system.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial or food production environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to maintain and repair production, utilities, and facility equipment.
• Knowledge of the relationship between equipment and process conveying systems, including conveyor belts and related components.
• Ability to read and work from manufacturer owner's manuals, specifications, and schematics.
• Proficiency in using standard machine shop and hand tools such as drills, saws, taps, dies, drill presses, hydraulic presses, horizontal and vertical saws, and bench tools.
• Capability to perform pipe fitting and welding on various metals and materials.
• Skill in rebuilding pumps, valves, gearboxes, and general mechanical equipment.
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and correct mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and small electrical issues.
• Basic knowledge of analog and digital instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs and high-speed packaging equipment.
• Familiarity with bakery equipment, including commercial baking ovens and associated systems.
• Basic computer skills, including use of Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Experience working with a Preventive Maintenance database or software to document and track maintenance activities.
• Ability to operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, and powered industrial trucks (PIT), following all safety procedures.
• Commitment to following preventive maintenance programs and maintaining accurate documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the food industry or bakery production environment is highly beneficial.
• Experience in electrical maintenance or exposure to electrical systems is a plus.
• Experience with PLC-based controls and schematic reading is an advantage.
• Familiarity with high-speed packaging lines and conveyor belt systems in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, inventory, and maintenance teams.
• Ability to support training of new mechanics and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large bakery plant equipped with commercial ovens, mixers, conveyor belts, and high-speed packaging equipment producing items such as cookies. The environment includes varying temperatures, generally ranging from about 60F to 85F depending on the area of the plant, and frequent exposure to food production processes and aromas. You will work on 3rd shift from 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., six days per week, in a fast-paced setting that requires attention to safety, cleanliness, and organization around moving machinery and hot equipment. Work involves using machine shop tools, lifts, and powered industrial vehicles, and requires wearing appropriate safety gear and attire suitable for an industrial food manufacturing environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $93600.00/yr. medical, dental, PTO, sick pay, 401k
