Medical malpractice defense attracts a certain kind of lawyer: someone who likes complexity, isn't afraid of a 3,000 page chart and enjoys the challenge of explaining medicine to people who've never studied it. If that's you, there's a role in Miami worth knowing about.

I'm Ryan Jaiswal, a legal recruiter at Distinct Recruitment, and I'm hiring a Litigation Attorney for an insurance defense firm that represents healthcare providers in medical malpractice claims.

The firm defends physicians, nurses, hospitals and other providers across a wide range of specialties. Cases are complex, stakes are high for the clients, and the work demands careful preparation. Attorneys own their files and work closely with experts and clients from the start.

Responsibilities

\n

\n

• Managing a medical malpractice defense caseload from presuit through trial

\n

• Reviewing records and building detailed chronologies

\n

• Identifying, retaining and preparing expert witnesses

\n

• Preparing healthcare providers for deposition, often for the first time

\n

• Taking and defending depositions of parties, treaters and experts

\n

• Drafting and arguing motions

\n

• Mediation and trial work

\n

Experience and qualifications

\n

\n

• 2+ years of litigation experience

\n

• Florida Bar admission

\n

• Medical malpractice defense experience is a strong plus

\n

• Good scientific curiosity and patience with detail

\n

• A reassuring, professional manner with clients

\n

\n

Working pattern, hours and pay

\n

\n

• Hybrid, based in Miami

\n

• 1,950 billable hours

\n

• $125,000 to $200,000. A wide range on purpose: it's meant to appeal to anyone from a mid level associate to an attorney already working at counsel level

The exposure you'll get

\n

\n

Med mal defense done properly involves a lot of courtroom and client facing work. You'll prepare doctors for their depositions, take expert depositions yourself, argue motions and help steer cases toward trial or resolution. You'll be the person the client knows and trusts, which is how good attorneys build reputations.
