Job Description

A great UHY client is seeking a Controller . The ideal candidate will have healthcare or similarly complex industry experience, strong hands-on accounting and finance expertise, and approximately 12+ years of experience with significant management experience.

The Controller role is a hybrid position with 3 days a week onsite. This is a direct hire position.

Controller Responsibilities

• Lead regional finance activities, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and financial analysis.
\n
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and remain hands-on with journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, and balance sheet accuracy.
\n
• Review financial results and develop analytics to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable recommendations.
\n
• Design and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and decision-support tools using financial and operational data.
\n
• Partner with operations, physicians, practice leadership, and business units to support strategic initiatives and growth plans.
\n
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to leadership, translating complex financial information into clear business insights.
\n
• Present financial results, analysis, and recommendations to executives, physicians, Boards, Finance Committees, and other stakeholders.
\n
• Drive finance transformation initiatives, including process standardization, automation, digital tools, and AI-enabled analytics.
\n
• Oversee financial statements, reconciliations, internal controls, and accounting processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
\n
• Support revenue cycle oversight, including AR, cash clearing, credit balances, contractual reserves, bad debt, and denials.
\n
• Confirm the accuracy of AP invoicing and support the integration of accounting and operational financial processes.
\n
• Ensure financial systems capture the information required by third-party payers, practice management, physicians, leadership, and external stakeholders.
\n
• Coordinate payroll functions and related reporting.
\n
• Lead financial analysis for capital expenditures, new projects, acquisitions, physician recruitment, and other business cases.
\n
• Support product line, service line, and practice profitability analysis.
\n
• Participate in inventory management and inventory counts as needed.
\n
• Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, financial performance, and operational efficiency.
\n
• Build strong relationships across Finance, IT, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and physician leadership.
\n
• Mentor and develop finance and accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Controller Requirements

\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
\n
• Approximately 12+ years of progressive professional accounting and finance experience.
\n
• 5–8+ years of management or leadership experience within accounting, finance, FP&A, or a related function.
\n
• Healthcare experience is strongly preferred, particularly hospital systems, private practices, multi-site healthcare organizations, or health insurance. Candidates from other complex industries may be considered.
\n
• Strong combination of accounting and finance experience, with the ability to remain hands-on while also operating strategically.
\n
• Proven experience with journal entries, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statements, and accounting controls.
\n
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, FP&A, financial analytics, and business partnering.
\n
• Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate clear recommendations to non-financial stakeholders.
\n
• Experience presenting financial information to executives, Boards, physicians, or other senior leadership.
\n
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with Power BI or similar analytics and visualization tools.
\n
• Experience leading finance transformation, process improvement, automation, or digital analytics initiatives.
\n
• Strong executive presence, polished communication style, and ability to build credibility and trust across diverse stakeholder groups.
\n
• High intellectual curiosity with a proactive approach to questioning existing processes and identifying improvements.
\n
• Strong critical thinking, adaptability, and ability to navigate ambiguity and complex business environments.
\n
• Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, IT, Revenue Cycle, Operations, and other functional leaders.
\n
• Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-financial audiences.
\n
• Self-starter who is organized, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
\n
• CPA and/or Master’s degree preferred.
\n
• Ability to work primarily onsite or travel onsite periodically, depending on location and business needs.
