Department CampusRecreation Salary $56,800 - $64,600 Description Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long-term goals and objectives. Plans, develops and administers methods, strategies andprocedures for meeting program objectives; directs and oversees the daily activities of staff members. Prepares and monitors the annual budget and ensures thatexpenditures are within budget allocation. Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with carrying out the objectives of the program. Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished towards specified program objectives; modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attains objectives. Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and change needs. Formulates, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning program administration. Manages and administers grant for program, including meetings, communication coordination, scholarships and other operations. May prepare or participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain grants from state and federal agencies, and private foundation sponsors. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normallyobtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree froma college or university or an equivalent in-depth specializedtraining program that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed. Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years ofdirectly job-related experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Program Director, Fitness is responsible for the day-to-dayoperation and staff supervision of a comprehensive Fitness programthat consists of Group Fitness, Personal Training, Fitnessactivations and engagements, Small Group Training, Fitness Zonemanagement, Fitness Assessments, Fit for Hire, Instructor andTrainer Courses, and nutrition services. The Program Director,Fitness will be responsible for program development, long-rangeplanning and assessment, budget, risk management, and maintainingaccurate records of participation. This position reports to theAssociate Director. Evening, weekend, and holiday hoursrequired. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to

• Directs the recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation offull time staff and students; provides guidance, and is responsiblefor professional development and training for staff. ---Providesleadership and direction for fitness programs, manages Fitness Zonewithin CRWC, schedules and evaluates fitness programs includinggroup fitness classes, nutrition services, personal and grouppersonal training, Fit4Hire, instructor training, non-academicPersonal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor certificationclasses, special programs and events.
• Provide support, development and mentorship to the Fitness ProgramManager and student staff.
• Collaborates with marketing by communicating plans for allprograms by established deadlines to ensure promotion,participation and engagement.
• Oversee scheduling, supervision, and management of fitnessprograms and multiple activities at various facilities on UH MainCampus including Sugar Land and Katy instructional sites.
• Monitors expenses and revenue goals, identifies opportunities forfundraising, sponsorship, and grants to support programs andevents.
• Develops and implements long range strategic plans for assessmentof student development, learning outcomes, evaluations of programs,services, and staff.
• Maintains records and creates various reports includingsemi-annual and annual reports.
• Collaborates with campus partners and academic units to developand implement programs and events that contribute to studentsuccess
• Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk for programs, implementdepartmental emergency action plan, inspect campus program areasand equipment.
• Ensures program compliance with university policies andprocedures, and local and state regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Health Education,Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or relatedfield. Master's degree preferred. Minimum requirements are at leastthree years of experience working in a leadership or supervisorycapacity with an emphasis on staff development, fiscal management,fitness program implementation, and management. Strong written andverbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated leadershipability are required. Skills or Certifications Must have valid Personal Training certification and Group FitnessInstructor certification through AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM, ora nationally accredited organization; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) and First Aidcertifications; and must obtain American Rec Cross CPR/FirstAid/AED Instructor certification within first year ofemployment.
