Location : Memphis, TN VA Medical Center

Schedule : Various shifts available. Coverage may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and Federal holidays based on VA scheduling requirements.

Contract length : 1 year with ext option, start april 1/ 2027

Pay : $21/hr

• Benefits: 10 days PTO, Accrued sick days, Paid Holidays, Health & welfare $5.42 (prorated based on hours worked)

Job Description

Lumbee Group is recruiting Phlebotomists / Medical Technicians for an anticipated federal healthcare contract supporting the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Phlebotomist / Medical Technician will support the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service and perform essential pre-analytical laboratory procedures. Responsibilities include collecting blood specimens, verifying patient identification, properly labeling and processing specimens, following infection-control procedures, and preparing samples for laboratory testing.

Key duties may include:

• Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and finger sticks.

• Verify patient identity using appropriate identifiers.

• Review laboratory orders and determine proper collection requirements.

• Label specimens accurately at the time of collection.

• Explain procedures and assist patients throughout the collection process.

• Follow aseptic techniques, safety procedures, and infection-control protocols.

• Monitor patients for adverse reactions following blood collection.

• Centrifuge, separate, store, and route specimens appropriately.

• Maintain clean and properly stocked blood-draw stations and collection supplies.

Requirements

• Previous phlebotomy or related medical laboratory experience.

• Ability to perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures.

• Knowledge of specimen labeling, handling, processing, and storage.

• Ability to follow infection-control and laboratory safety procedures.

• ASCP certification is preferred but is not mandatory.

• Must be able to meet VA background, credentialing, health, and onboarding requirements.

• Current resume detailing length and type of experience will be required.
