Current UC employees must apply internally via SuccessFactors. Job Overview Senior Laboratory Associate – full‑time (100% FTE). Salary commensurate with experience. Supports the university’s mission and commitment to excellence for students, faculty, staff, and all university activities. Position open until filled; review of applications begins in May 2026. Essential Functions Laboratory Preparation & Instructional Support Prepare laboratory materials for all scheduled courses, including reagents, solutions, media, specimens, cultures, and equipment. Support labs may include Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Biology, Cell Biology, Environmental Studies, Ecology, and Allied Health (e.g., Physical Therapy Assistant and Surgical Technician programs). Set up and break down laboratory exercises according to faculty lab manuals and course schedules. Maintain and catalog bacteria cultures, prepare agar plates and different types of media. Coordinate lab preparation timelines with multiple instructors to ensure readiness for concurrent courses. Laboratory Operations & Organization Oversee daily operations of teaching laboratories, prep rooms, and shared lab spaces. Maintain clean, organized, and functional lab environments in compliance with current institutional standards. Disposal and storage of all chemical and biohazard lab waste according to regulations by UC Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Label and store in EHS containers and/or bottles for pick up. Schedule laboratory spaces and shared equipment in coordination with faculty, staff and department. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including chemical hygiene, biosafety, bloodborne pathogens, UC guidelines and OSHA standards. Communicate with faculty, staff, and students about chemical and biohazard safety program administration. Maintain records of training certificates. Manage chemical and biological inventories, including labeling, storage, compatibility, and disposal. Coordinate hazardous waste handling and disposal according to local, state, and federal regulations. Train faculty, staff, and student workers on laboratory safety procedures and emergency protocols. Equipment & Resource Management Maintain a purchasing card and all digital record keeping for the financial accounts in UC’s Concur System. Order, receive, and track laboratory supplies and equipment within departmental or grant budgets. Maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate repairs for laboratory equipment such as microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, micropipettes, refrigerators, and freezers. Planning, Documentation & Institutional Support Maintain accurate records for inventory, safety documentation, equipment maintenance, and lab usage. Maintain chemical and biological inventory and keep SDS sheets available for all chemicals. Communicate with IT and Facilities departments to solve computer problems and create work orders on lab maintenance needs. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Office environment with no specific unusual physical or environmental demands. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of experience – or Associate degree with four (4) years of experience. Ideal Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years of biology and/or microbiology lab experience – or a Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology or a closely related field.
