Food Safety and Quality Manager

We are seeking an experienced Food Safety & Quality Manager to lead our food safety, quality assurance, and sanitation programs within our fresh-cut onion processing facility.

This is a key leadership role for a hands-on food safety professional who enjoys building strong systems, developing teams, and making a direct impact on product safety and operational excellence. The successful candidate will have ownership of our food safety programs, lead audit readiness, oversee QA and sanitation teams, and partner with operations leadership to continuously improve our processes.

Position Responsibilities

Food Safety Leadership

• Manage and continuously improve the company’s Food Safety Management System.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, FSMA, GMP, customer requirements, and third-party certification standards.
• Maintain and oversee programs including:



• HACCP / Preventive Controls
• Environmental Monitoring
• Sanitation Verification
• Traceability
• Recall Preparedness
• Food Defense
• Supplier Approval



• Serve as the primary food safety resource for company leadership, employees, customers, and regulatory representatives.

Quality Assurance Management

• Lead and develop the Quality Assurance team responsible for daily food safety and quality verification.
• Monitor product quality, process controls, and sanitation effectiveness.
• Review quality data, identify trends, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage customer complaints, investigations, and product improvement initiatives.
• Partner with Production and Operations teams to improve food safety, quality, and efficiency.

Sanitation Program Oversight

• Provide leadership and direction to sanitation personnel.
• Verify sanitation effectiveness through inspections, documentation review, and verification activities.
• Ensure proper chemical usage, sanitation procedures, and regulatory compliance.
• Identify opportunities to improve sanitation performance and reduce risk.

Audit & Compliance Management

Lead preparation and successful completion of:

• PrimusGFS/SQF audits
• Customer food safety audits
• FDA inspections
• Internal food safety audits

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining year-round audit readiness.
• Managing audit documentation and records.
• Responding to findings and leading corrective action efforts.
• Ensuring corrective actions are completed and verified.

Training & Food Safety Culture

• Develop and deliver employee training programs related to:



• Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
• Food safety procedures
• Sanitation practices
• Personal hygiene
• Traceability and recall



• Build a strong food safety culture through employee engagement and leadership.

Required

• 5+ years of food safety, quality assurance, or sanitation experience in food manufacturing.
• Experience leading QA teams and supporting sanitation programs.
• Strong knowledge of FDA regulations, FSMA requirements, and GMPs.
• Experience managing third-party food safety audits.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with production teams in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

• Fresh-cut produce experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• PCQI certification.
• HACCP certification.
• PrimusGFS or SQF experience.
• Environmental Monitoring Program experience.
• Experience with customer audits and corrective action management.
• Experience with online work order and food safety document management systems
