Role Description The Sign Language Interpreter is a full-time hybrid role based in the Washington DC–Baltimore Area, with some flexibility for work-from-home tasks as appropriate. In this role, the interpreter provides real-time sign language interpreting and spoken English support for meetings, trainings, briefings, and day-to-day communications involving Deaf and hard-of-hearing team members and stakeholders. Responsibilities include interpreting between American Sign Language (ASL) and English, translating written and spoken materials when needed, and ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate communication in technical and operational settings. The interpreter collaborates with project teams and leadership to facilitate inclusive communication in both in-person and virtual environments. The role may also involve preparing for assignments by reviewing relevant technical content, maintaining confidentiality, and contributing to accessibility best practices across the organization. Qualifications Strong proficiency in Sign Language and Interpreting skills, with the ability to convey complex and technical information accurately. Experience with Translation between signed and spoken/written languages, ensuring clarity and fidelity of messages. Knowledge of Deaf Culture and accessibility practices, supporting respectful and inclusive communication. Excellent Communication skills, including clear spoken and written English and active listening abilities. Relevant certification or credential as a sign language interpreter (e.g., nationally recognized interpreter certification) preferred. Prior experience interpreting in professional, technical, government, or defense-related environments is beneficial. Ability to maintain confidentiality, work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, and adapt to in-person and virtual settings. Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., interpretation, communication, linguistics) or equivalent practical experience preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr ORBIS Inc
