Unit Coordinator - 5 East

Site Newton-Wellesley Hospital Job Summary 32 hr evenings, 4x8 hr shifts, every other weekend and rotating holidays. Summary Provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff, serving as liaison between patients, visitors and clinicians. Organizes priorities, completes tasks on time, manages confidential patient information. Partners with nursing to coordinate day‑to‑day patient flow, communicating admissions, discharges and transfers. Provides outstanding services for every customer interaction. Actual duties may vary by department. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Performs clerical duties to assist in general administration of the unit or floor. Greets and interacts with patients, families, visitors and coworkers professionally in person and via communication tools. Receives, prioritizes and manages information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit. Schedules consultations, tests, procedures and patient transport to other departments. Enters accurate, timely information into the electronic medical record for admissions, discharges and transfers to facilitate efficient patient throughput. Contacts ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services and supplies; tracks status and location; uses the designated process to identify and facilitate repairs. Assists manager with payroll duties, staff scheduling or supervision of unit secretaries (duties may vary). Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in related field preferred. Experience: Administrative support 1‑2 years required. Experience cannot be used in lieu of degree. Licenses/Certifications: Certified Health Unit Coordinator – National Association of Health Unit Coordinators (NAHUC) preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing), MS Office, ability to proofread and edit, phone system usage, time management, strong verbal & written communication, interpersonal skills, familiarity with medical terminology.
