Associate Director of Mechanical Utilities Engineer

Merck's Global Engineering Solutions team seeks an Associate Director of Mechanical Utilities Engineer to lead capital projects delivering mechanical utility system design solutions across pharmaceutical manufacturing and research facilities worldwide. This role combines technical expertise in utility infrastructure with project leadership, supporting the design, construction, and commissioning of systems for sterile, biological, and solid dosage operations globally.
Responsibilities
- Lead or support mechanical utility design efforts on capital projects from concept through commissioning
- Provide technical guidance and evaluate alternative solutions for sterile, biological, and laboratory facility systems
- Author and maintain engineering design standards, guidelines, and practices
- Collaborate with project teams, vendors, and global manufacturing sites on design, construction, and troubleshooting
- Conduct peer reviews and support sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives on projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or applicable science field
- Minimum 10 years' experience in mechanical utility systems engineering
- Strong knowledge of utility system design, regulatory requirements, and equipment sizing
- Prior experience with pharmaceutical or biotech industry utility engineering
- Leadership, teamwork, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with stage-gate capital project management processes
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and engineering design software
