Associate Director of HVAC Engineering

Merck's Global Engineering Solutions team seeks an Associate Director of HVAC Engineering to lead capital project design for manufacturing and research facilities worldwide. The role requires developing compliant HVAC solutions from concept through commissioning, providing technical expertise across global initiatives, and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support HVAC design efforts for capital projects across multiple business units and programs
• Provide technical guidance during project scoping, front-end planning, and evaluation of alternative solutions
• Collaborate with project teams during detailed design, construction, installation, and commissioning phases
• Author and maintain engineering design standards, guidelines, and position papers
• Conduct peer reviews, mentor junior engineers, and support field walk-downs during construction

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or applicable science degree
• Minimum 10 years designing HVAC and mechanical systems
• Prior pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry HVAC design experience
• Strong knowledge of HVAC fundamentals, codes, equipment sizing, and troubleshooting
• Ability to produce engineering drawings, specifications, URS documents, and design reports
• Broad understanding of HVAC materials and fabrication techniques
