Registered Nurse (RN) – Psychiatric / Behavioral Health

NuWest Healthcare is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dedicated behavioral health team. This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate and clinically skilled nurse who enjoys working with patients experiencing a variety of mental health and behavioral health conditions.

The Psychiatric RN will provide comprehensive nursing care, medication management, patient assessments, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support while working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric and nursing assessments.
• Monitor patients for changes in mental, emotional, and physical status.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
• Monitor medication effectiveness and potential adverse reactions.
• Provide crisis intervention and respond appropriately to behavioral emergencies.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Utilize therapeutic communication techniques to establish trust and rapport.
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, coping strategies, and discharge planning.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, providers, social workers, therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in treatment planning and patient care conferences.
• Document patient assessments, interventions, responses, and outcomes accurately and timely.
• Recognize and escalate changes in patient condition or safety concerns.
• Follow suicide prevention, de-escalation, infection prevention, and patient safety protocols.
• Support patients with activities of daily living as appropriate.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and patient confidentiality.
• Follow facility policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Active RN license in the state of practice.
• Current BLS certification.
• Previous psychiatric, behavioral health, or mental health nursing experience preferred.
• Strong assessment, communication, and crisis-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with patients experiencing acute or chronic mental health conditions.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging or unpredictable situations.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
