Business Development Associate, Capital Raising

Job Description
Business Development Associate, Capital Raising
\nCapital Raising · In Office at Boyce Plaza · Reports to TJ Bencho, Partner and Capital Raiser
\n \nIs This You...
\n• Early in your career, competitive by nature, and looking for a seat where the scoreboard is real and the ceiling is high?
\n• Comfortable picking up the phone all day, walking into a room full of strangers and leaving with new
\nconversations?
\n• Organized enough that nothing falls through the cracks, and hungry enough that you would rather
\nbook one more meeting than go home early?
\n• Curious about how private capital, real estate lending and investing actually work, and willing to learn
\nit from the people doing it?
\n• Ready to learn how to raise capital from one of the best closers in the business, by filling his calendar every single week?
\n \nAbout The Role
\nSteelPoint Capital Holdings is a Pittsburgh based private capital platform. We raise capital from investors and put it to work in Pittsburgh real estate through Local First Lending, our real estate portfolio and the entrepreneurs we back. In 2027 we are launching a new investment fund, raising more capital than we ever have, and building the team to do it.
\n \nThe Business Development Associate is the engine behind our capital raising. You report directly to TJ
\nBencho, our partner who raises capital full time and closes our largest investors. Your job is simple to say and hard to do: fill TJ's calendar with qualified investor meetings. You find the people, start the conversations, qualify the fit, book the meeting, prepare him for it and follow up afterward so nothing goes cold. TJ closes.
\n \nYou make sure he always has someone to close.
\n \nThis is an entry level seat with a clear path. Do this job well for eighteen to twenty four months and you will know how to raise capital, you will have your own relationships, and you will be first in line for the next capital raiser seat we open.
\n \nWhat You'll Own
\nProspecting and Outreach
\n• Hit a daily minimum standard of outbound touches, set with TJ and reviewed weekly: calls, emails,
\nLinkedIn messages, texts and in person conversations with business owners, professionals, executives, exited founders and investors in the Pittsburgh region and beyond.
\n• Build and work the target list with our marketing team: newsletter subscribers, webinar attendees,
\nevent guests, referrals from existing investors, Duquesne University alumni and the real estate
\noperator community around Local First Lending.
\n• Personalize every touch. We do not blast. You learn who someone is, why they might care and what to say first.
\n• Turn every event, dinner, golf outing and game day into follow up conversations within twenty four
\nhours.
\n \nQualifying and Booking
\n• Qualify every prospect on fit, interest and timing before a meeting is booked, using the questions and the process TJ sets.
\n• Book qualified first meetings for TJ every week against a minimum standard set with him, plus
\nmeetings you run yourself with TJ or another senior team member alongside you.
\n• Own the calendar logistics: confirmations, reminders, reschedules and the handoff into the meeting.
\n• Prepare a one page brief before every meeting: who the person is, how we found them, what they care about and the two things TJ should make sure to say.
\n \nPipeline and Follow Up
\n• Keep every prospect, touch, meeting and next step in our customer relationship system (GoHighLevel)
\nthe same day it happens. If it is not in the system, it did not happen.
\n• Run the follow up after every meeting TJ takes: thank you, next step, materials, the introduction to
\nKevin or Pete when the prospect is ready, and the reminder when a date slips.
\n• Bring a clean pipeline report to the weekly capital meeting: touches, conversations, meetings booked, meetings held, next steps and what you need.
\n• Coordinate guest lists for investor dinners, Duquesne game day hospitality and quarterly investor
\nevents with Alex Orosz and the marketing team.
\n \nLearning the Business
\n• Learn the product cold: how the fund works, how Local First Lending underwrites and funds a loan,
\nhow investors are paid and how we report. Sit in on Kevin's webinars and TJ's meetings until you can
\nexplain it yourself.
\n• Travel with TJ to conferences and industry events and work the room with a target list in hand.
\n• Know when to bring in Kevin, Pete or Alex: the prospect who needs the numbers walked through, the
\none who is ready for documents, the one who is already an investor. Make the introduction and stay
\non the thread.
\n• Study what works. Which sources convert, which messages get replies, which meetings close, and bring the answers to TJ every month.
\n \nStandards
\n• Everything investor facing follows the scripts and guardrails set by our securities counsel. You never
\nquote returns, promise outcomes or describe offer terms outside the approved materials. You point
\npeople to the process and the people who run it.
\n• Same day response to every inbound inquiry. Every prospect is treated like they are already an
\ninvestor.
\n \nWho You Are
\n• One to three years in sales, inside sales, banking, wealth management, recruiting or another phone
\nheavy role, or a recent graduate with a sales internship and a track record of competing at something
\nhard.
\n• High activity and high energy. You are not deterred by no and you do not need someone standing over you to make the next call.
\n• Organized and disciplined about follow up. You keep lists, you keep promises and you keep the system current.
\n• Comfortable in a room. You can start a conversation with anyone and make them glad you did.
\n• Coachable. You want to learn from TJ, Alex, Kevin and Casey and you take feedback without flinching.• Predictive Index profiles such as Persuader, Promoter or Captain are typical of people who thrive in this seat.
\n• A Pittsburgh network, a Duquesne degree or a background in real estate, finance or athletics are all a
\nplus, not a requirement.
\n \nPeople who thrive here often come from an inside sales or sales development seat, a bank or wealth
\nmanagement associate program, a recruiting desk, or straight out of school with a sales internship and a competitive background, including former athletes who want a career with a scoreboard.
\n \nWhy Join Us
\n• You will learn to raise capital from a partner who does it full time and closes our largest investors, and you will see the whole business from the inside.
\n• A clear scoreboard every week, an uncapped bonus that pays for hitting it, and a clear path to the next capital raiser seat we open.
\n• You join at the start of our biggest year: a new fund, a new marketing team, and a company that
\nintends to be the best known business builders in Pittsburgh.
\n• Investor dinners, golf, Duquesne game days and conferences are part of the job, not a perk.
\n• Health, dental and vision benefits, paid time off and a team that will have your back.
\n \nCompensation
\nBase salary of $50,000 to $60,000 depending on experience, plus an uncapped performance bonus tied to qualified first meetings booked, pipeline quality and the capital team's results. The bonus is built for an A player: do this job the way it is written and your total compensation reaches well into six figures. The bonus is
\nstructured as a salaried employee bonus under the guidance of our counsel, with the full plan shared during the interview process.
\n \nOur Core Values
\nLet's Go!: Action, action, action. Progress over perfection. Focus on priorities.
\nExtreme Ownership: Say it, do it. Learn fast, fix faster. Results matter, always.
\nWe Got Your Back: 1+1 > 2. Serve instead of being served. Thoughtfully challenge.
\nLead with Heart: Respect, care, and compassion. Authentic and genuine. Contagious positivity.
\nIf you read the words minimum standard and your first thought was how far above it you could get, we want to meet you. This is not a seat for someone who wants to be handed warm leads. This is the seat for someone who wants to build the pipeline that a $50 million raise runs on, and then earn the right to close it.
\n \nExperience
\n• One to three years in a sales, business development or client facing role, or a recent graduate with a
\nsales internship.
\n• Comfortable on the phone and in person. Written communication that is clear and quick.
\n• Customer relationship system experience a plus; GoHighLevel a plus.
\n• Bachelor's degree preferred.
\n \nLocation: In office at Boyce Plaza, Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania. This is not a remote role.
\nTo apply, send your resume and a short note on why this seat is the right one for you to View email address on ziprecruiter.com. Tell us about something you have competed at and how it went.
