Fleet Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing the city's fleet of public transportation vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities include:

• Daily inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs to buses.
• Repairing, replacing, and maintaining tires and batteries. Inspects buses for damage, loose bolts, and transmission leaks.
• Washing and refueling buses daily; adding oil and fluids as needed.
• Draining air tanks, and installing and removing small electrical on vehicles.
• Responding to road calls as necessary, completing work orders, and ordering parts as needed.
• Inspecting safety equipment, removing and vaulting fareboxes, and running night-time GFI reports.
• May work with and supervise tasks performed by community service workers.
• Withdrawing revenue from fareboxes; storing revenue in the vault.
• Ensuring that the supervisor is informed of all job-related issues.
• Providing transportation to Homeland Security in the event of an emergency (Small or Large Buses).
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required knowledge and skills include:

Education and experience requirements:

High School Diploma, GED, Associate degree, Technical Certification. Minimum level of automotive repair experience. CDL permit or full endorsement. Basic knowledge of essential automotive maintenance tasks includes fluid level checks, tire changes fuel, and minor mechanical repairs. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The work is typically performed in an office, library, computer room, or outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
