Managing Director, ConnectALL

Managing Director ConnectALL seeks a full-time Managing Director. The Managing Director reports to the Senior Vice President and will coordinate strategic planning, drive key initiatives, support high‑level external relationships, anticipate challenges, and act on opportunities in the broadband sector of New York State. Key Responsibilities Support the Senior Vice President in setting long‑term strategy for ConnectALL. Work with the Vice President for Program and Operations to monitor performance, identify future challenges, and recommend solutions. Manage the initiation of key initiatives, develop resource and staffing plans, oversee implementation, and hand off to managers or directors as appropriate. Advise the Senior Vice President on stakeholder engagement and stand in for the Senior Vice President when necessary; brief elected officials and other stakeholders on ConnectALL programs. Help the Senior Vice President and senior staff respond to time‑sensitive, complex requests. Travel as needed to support ConnectALL projects and stakeholder engagement events. Education and Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree required (MPP or MPA may substitute for the required years of experience). Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience, including at least three (3) years in one or more of the following fields – government, consulting within the government sector, economic development, public policy, government affairs, organizational or campaign strategy, or related business or not‑for‑profit areas. Knowledge and Skills Deep understanding of government and policy operations in New York at the state, regional, and local levels. Expert knowledge of the broadband sector in New York. Experience leading complex projects and collaborating across multiple teams or organizations. Experience supervising staff, leading teams, and fostering a growth‑mindset culture. Strong strategic engagement and negotiation skills with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, private companies, and community leaders. Organized, detail-oriented, able to juggle multiple tasks and switch contexts quickly. Excellent communication and public presentation skills. Demonstrated interest and passion for broadband infrastructure, digital equity, adoption, and literacy programs, and a commitment to closing the digital divide in New York. Internal Candidates Minimum five (5) years of satisfactory service in another relevant position within Empire State Development. Up to two (2) years of accredited post‑secondary education, or U.S. military service may substitute for service at ESD. Compensation and Benefits Salary range as specified.
