Reports to: Manager, Facilities MaintenanceDepartment: Park MaintenanceStatus: Full time, Non-ExemptAbout the Central Park Conservancy:Central Park is one of the world's most famous and beloved public spaces. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1858, the 843-acre Park was the country's first purpose-built public park and is a National Historic Landmark and a New York Scenic Landmark. The Central Park Conservancy, a private, not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1980 to rescue the Park, which had fallen into serious disrepair. Since then, the Conservancy has overseen the investment of over $1.6 billion in the restoration of the park, which now hosts over 40 million visitors a year.The Conservancy is one of the largest and most successful public private partnerships in New York City and is considered a major civic institution given its impact on the health and vibrancy of both the Park and the City. The Conservancy’s mission is to preserve and celebrate Central Park as a sanctuary from urban life. The City of New York has formally entrusted the care of the park to the Conservancy which is responsible for every aspect of its care, including landscape maintenance, capital improvements, and visitor experience. The Conservancy employs roughly 400 people and has an annual operating budget of $100 million.The PositionWorking under the general supervision of the Foreperson of Park Maintenance, the Facility Maintainer performs custodial maintenance duties on all staff and numerous public facilities in Central Park.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform routine custodial maintenance, including thorough cleaning throughout the day and regular deep cleaning, disinfecting, graffiti removal, replenishment ofsupplies, and monitoring and emptying interior trash in all visitor centers, public restrooms, staff locker rooms, restrooms and common areasPerform comprehensive floor cleaning and maintenanceOperate various types of equipment including utility vehicle, light or medium weight trucks, and standard and specialized cleaning/disinfecting equipmentPerform minor maintenance and repairsMaintain tools and equipment in good working order and report items that require repairMake sure facilities are securePerform all tasks in compliance with organization/division policies, procedures and protocolsSuccessful completion of assigned training courses in the science of cleaningSupport continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practicesNotify supervisor regarding malfunctioning infrastructure or other repair needs, safety hazards, and Park patron quality of life issuesWork cooperatively with staff throughout the organizationAssist in preparation for special events as neededDemonstrate initiative and dependabilityEngage frequently and in a courteous, professional manner with members of the publicPerform related work as assignedPerform snow removal and ice mitigation on park paths and facility entrances, and other hard surfaces with machines and physical labor to provide appropriate levels of access as per established organizational standardsMinimum RequirementsA four-year high school diploma or equivalent; andDemonstrated work experience; andValid Drivers’ License that must be maintained for duration of employmentAdditional Requirements for Assignment to Facility Maintainer IIA satisfactory combination of education and/or experience as described above is equivalent to 3 years’ experienceDemonstrated competency of essential job functionsExperience using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutionsCPC Internal Candidates – A satisfactory performance evaluation during each year of employmentAbilities RequiredAbility to read, understand, follow and enforce safety proceduresAbility to understand verbal instructionsAbility and willingness to work, weekends and holidays, and occasional overtime as neededAbility to lift 50 lbs. and perform heavy physical labor on a daily basisAbility to stand, walk, and bend for many hoursCommunication skillsNote: This position is in-person (not a remote role).Salary range:Facility Maintainer I: $43,500 - $47,400 annually commensurate with experience.Facility Maintainer II: $44,500 - $52,500 annually commensurate with experience.Diversity, Equity & InclusionThe Central Park Conservancy’s work is guided by the belief that Central Park, and all public parks, must be managed and actively protected as an inclusive and democratic space for all.Working closely with our New York City partners, we will always strive towards creating and sustaining a sense of belonging for all visitors and advocating for equitable and accessible public use of the Park.In service of this belief, we are committed to fostering a workforce and organizational culture that is as diverse as Central Park itself and the dynamic city it serves. #J-18808-Ljbffr Central Park Conservancy Inc
