Controls Technician Level II

Overview The Controls Technician Level II will play a vital role in supporting the operations of our Plant Packaging, Processing, and Distribution Center work areas. This individual should demonstrate leadership and a commitment to team collaboration, employing our Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) philosophy and principles. Flexibility in scheduled hours is essential, including availability for weekend work. Key Responsibilities Ensure control systems are systematically backed up, including PLC, HMI, and LCT systems, protecting them through server support and tape backups. Conduct required calibrations for QSA and maintain associated records for compliance during audits. Collaborate with Maintenance Technicians to troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation and control issues efficiently. Implement programming changes for small projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain and update all plant drawings, ensuring accuracy in reflecting changes made by plant personnel and issuing controls for project-related work. Serve as the plant controls representative on projects, assuring adherence to plant standards. Assist in preparing Corrective Action Reports (CAR's) and Request for Engineering Assistance (REA's) for new projects, maintaining necessary documentation. Coordinate maintenance and operator training programs for skill development on new equipment and systems. Manage the documentation of electrical power, control, and programming applications, ensuring compliance with PepsiCo, NEC, NFPA, and local standards. Support Advanced Manufacturing Practices (AMP) and Factory Initiative (FI) teams by providing accurate production performance data. Contribute actively to the development and implementation of TPM systems under the Planned Maintenance Pillar. Lead and enhance the controls skills development of the maintenance team. Assist the AMP team in understanding line and equipment control strategies. Additional Skills and Tools Familiarity with Temperature Instruments (100 ohm platinum RTDs). Knowledge of Flow Instruments such as Micro-motion mass flow meters and magnetic flow meters, including related theory. Experience with Control Valves, particularly APV on process and Fisher on steam. Understanding of Analytical instruments like pH meters and Chlorine Monitors. Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, specifically ControlLogix and PanelView systems. Proficiency in communication protocols including Ethernet, DeviceNet, and ControlNet. Expertise in Allen-Bradley VFDs and Servos. Skillful utilization of HMI Software such as Wonderware and PanelView. Knowledge of 480 Volt 3 Phase distribution and motor starting. Qualifications 3-5 years of PLC/HMI programming experience with Allen-Bradley systems, with a preference for ControlLogix and Wonderware. Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite. Project-related experience is a plus. Able to read and interpret schematics. High School Diploma or GED required; a 2-year college technical degree is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills in controls. Self-motivated and driven. This position is located at the New River Pepsi site.
