Learn more at Purpose The Associate Director, Strategy and Operations, will play a critical role in functional leadership and operational support to ensure the successful execution of initiatives that enhance efficiency and drive scientific innovation of the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) Organization. Responsibilities Strong working knowledge of R&D overall processes and laboratory work Working knowledge of how a new molecular entity is created, with emphasis on the science needed Manage functional resources to target operational costs, Capex, and headcount Optimize functional efficiencies across CROs, contractors, and lab supplies through contracting oversight and procurement partnership Manage DTMP partnerships and collaborations in conjunction with Alliance Management Drive strategic and process operational improvement initiatives on behalf of DTMP Contribute DTMP inputs to Therapeutics Discovery financial planning and forecasting cycles Provide functional leadership support including LT/ELT meeting facilitation and communications support Lead G&O development and progress tracking for 2026 Maintain functional 3‑year strategies Support functional recruitment and onboarding Assist DTMP leadership with talent processes (advancements, talent talks, year‑end performance) Leadership Characteristics Motivates, inspires, and influences others across the organization and enterprise to achieve results Models Courage & Care behaviors centered on Our Credo values Demonstrates strong Execute and Optimize leadership behaviors to drive efficiency and strategic change management Establishes and maintains strong relationships with key external and internal stakeholders to attain business results Partners with DTMP leadership team to drive cross‑functional initiatives Qualifications / Requirements Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred in a scientific field such as biology, protein science, chemistry or equivalent Minimum of 10 years of experience in laboratory sciences and operations in pharma R&D Knowledge of discovery sciences and business Scientific background in protein science, biology, or chemistry preferred Strong organizational skills related to data management Demonstrated success at building highly collaborative and effective relationships in a complex, highly matrixed organization Ability to present and communicate to stakeholders Experience and success with external partnerships Change‑management experience Experience assessing technology, external environment, and R&D process requirements to drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, and process improvements Experience in program, project, and financial management Ability to translate data into information and strategy into executable action plans 10‑30% domestic and international travel as needed Required Skills Alliance Formation Business Communications Business Planning Business Savvy Cross‑Functional Collaboration Data Reporting Financial Forecasting Mentorship Operational Excellence Organizing Performance Measurement Problem Solving Regulatory Environment Stakeholder Engagement Strategic Analysis Strategic Change Strategic Thinking Technical Credibility Preferred Skills Alliance Formation Business Communications Business Planning Business Savvy Cross‑Functional Collaboration Data Reporting Financial Forecasting Mentorship Operational Excellence Organizing Performance Measurement Problem Solving Regulatory Environment Stakeholder Engagement Strategic Analysis Strategic Change Strategic Thinking Technical Credibility Equal Opportunity Statement Johnson & Johnson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
