Professor, Modern Language (Spanish) - South Campus PRIMARY FUNCTION: Faculty members are expected to be effective teachers, to maintain current knowledge in their fields, and to have pedagogic skills that are appropriate for our students. Faculty members are also expected to continue development of their knowledge and skills, to contribute to the community of scholars, and to represent the College in the community. Demonstrates high standards-academic and professional. Facilitates engaging, student-centered learning experiences that promote critical thinking and academic growth. Employs innovative teaching strategies to foster active learning and student participation. Creates a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages inquiry and collaboration. Evaluates student work constructively and provides timely feedback. Teaches at times and locations that meet student needs. Provides access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and responds to inquiries in a timely manner. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student learning materials. Develops and uses a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guideline. Professional Development: Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities. Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with different educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning. Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self‑evaluation process of self‑reflection. Meets or exceeds professional standards, state‑mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s). Service: Actively participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils. Participates in college‑related activities such as registration, community education, recruitment of students, student retention, and faculty selection. Participates in college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention. Participates in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college. Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards. Participates in setting departmental goals, in developing college budgets that support the goals, and in planning for achieving those goals. Promotes and maintains departmental affiliation agreements and other partnerships with other institutions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge, skills, and abilities relative to teaching area Ability to demonstrate College values Education Requirement: Master's or in teaching discipline or Master's degree and successful complete of 18 hours of graduate level coursework in teaching discipline. Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with two (2) or more years of community college teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have either taught dual credit courses or high school. Preference will be given to candidates who have distance‑learning teaching experience. Note: Faculty are assigned to teach courses using various delivery methods and modalities based on the teaching area and the needs of students and the College. Faculty will meet a 15-hour load with face‑to‑face sections. Faculty will teach dual credit learners and may be required to teach on‑site in area high schools. All faculty are expected to fulfill the College's on‑campus expectations, currently a 35‑hour per week physical presence.
