Job summary

A customer's vibration test is failing, and nobody can figure out why. Is it the fixture, the sensor, the control settings, or the physics of the test itself? You help them find out. Sometimes that happens by phone or email. Sometimes it means flying out and working the problem in person, in a loud industrial lab next to a running shaker or in an aerospace test facility.

Crystal Instruments designs and manufactures vibration control and data acquisition systems. Our customers are engineers in aerospace, defense, automotive, and electronics. As an Applications Engineer, you become the expert who understands both our products and their testing problems.

What you'll do

• Diagnose customer problems across hardware, software, sensors, and test setup (both remotely and on-site).
• Set up and run our systems for tests, product demos, and trade shows.
• Train customers on our products and on vibration testing concepts.
• Reproduce issues and report bugs to our software team.
• Write application notes, manuals, and training materials.
• Bring customer feedback to our development team to help shape our products.

Who we're looking for

• You're strong at math and physics. Algebra, calculus, and introductory physics (including mechanics and electricity / magnetism) should feel comfortable. Our interview includes technical questions covering these topics.
• You communicate clearly. You can explain things to customers who are engineers themselves, and you carry yourself professionally in front of them.
• You want to learn. You're eager to learn vibration testing, data acquisition, and signal processing. We will teach you the industry concepts.

Background

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, computer, or similar), physics, computer science, applied math, or a related technical field.
• This is an entry-level role, typically for candidates with 0 to 3 years of experience.
• Customer-facing experience of any kind is a plus, such as work as a TA or tutor, or in retail or restaurants.
• Python, MATLAB, or similar programming experience is helpful.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 30% are required.

Pay and benefits

• Salary: $70,000 starting base.
• Bonus: Discretionary performance bonus targeted at 5–20% of base, based on individual performance and company results.
• Retirement: 401(k) with a company contribution of 3–7.5% of total income through our profit-sharing plan, subject to eligibility and vesting.

• Time off: 11 paid holidays and 14 days of PTO.

Our team supports defense and aerospace customers, and some of that work involves technology subject to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR) that only U.S. persons can access.
