Meriwether Godsey is looking for a full-time prep cook responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals as well as special events and high-end catering at an independent school in Alexandria, Virginia, which educates students from ages 3 through grade 12.

Full-time Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm and weekends as needed for catering events. $17.00-$19.00 per hour (based on experience).

What the Prep Cook will do:

• Perform routine kitchen tasks and follow the rep list created to plan duties
• Label and stock all ingredients on shelves for organization and easy access
• Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep
• Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes
• Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parboiling food
• Prepare simple dishes, such as salads and entrees
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
• Keep work areas organized, cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What the Prep Cook will need:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 2-3 years of prior food preparatory experience preferred
• ServSafe Certification, principles of food production techniques
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• Awareness of commercial kitchen equipment and how to perform routine maintenance and cleaning
