Psychiatric Nursing Assistant Supervisor

Position Job Title: Psychiatric Nursing Assist V Location: Terrell State Hospital, Terrell, TX Salary: $4,094.50 – $5,921.16 per month Job Overview We are seeking a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant Supervisor to oversee daily operations and deliver quality programs and services on the assigned unit at Terrell State Hospital. The role requires strong leadership, supervision, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily operations and delivery of quality programs and services on the unit. Arrange work schedules to ensure adequate supervision and coverage based on supervision level and direct‑care needs. Provide leadership, plan, assign, and supervise activities of PNAs. Hire, train, coach, manage time and leave accounting, and promote professional growth of PNAs. Model and coach PNA IV staff on supervisory skills, behavior management, crisis intervention, mealtime coordination, and other shift plans. Ensure care, treatment, training, and support activities are completed and documented in collaboration with other disciplines. Provide consultation and guidance to staff on managing challenging behaviors and apply behavioral intervention strategies. Maintain a physical presence on the unit to ensure safe conditions, infection control, and quality of life. Document and report unusual incidents; engage in continuous quality improvement and attach recommendations to Unit Director. Assist with disaster response and continuity of operations activation as required. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum 4 years of direct patient care experience; at least 3 years of psychiatric patient care experience. At least 2 years of supervisory or team‑lead experience (3 years preferred). Knowledge of patient care techniques, therapeutic interventions, and de‑escalation techniques. Skill in administering first aid, CPR, and responding to emergency psychiatric situations. Skill using TIPS and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. Proficient in documentation systems and electronic health records. Strong communication skills, able to model appropriate communication with staff and patients. Ability to observe, document, and report potential malingering behaviors and manage manipulatives. Understanding of staffing needs and acuity levels for psychiatric populations. Ability to apply proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. Valid Texas driver’s license required if transporting patients. CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
