About this Role The Investigator conducts full and complete criminal/civil investigations into allegations of fraud against the California Medical Assistance Program (Medi‑Cal) and other state programs. All investigators are peace officers under California Penal Code Section 830.3(h) and perform duties comparable to other peace officers. DHCS Audits & Investigations (A&I) Division uses a field‑based investigative model, requiring staff to leave directly from the office for field assignments, spend at least 90% of each day in the field, and return to the office only when necessary. Investigators are provided state law‑enforcement vehicles for field duties. During employment, investigators must carry a firearm and be proficient in its use. Maintain a neat personal appearance, wear plain clothes, and keep firearms concealed. Analyze situations accurately, draw valid conclusions, and take immediate, effective action during stressful or adverse conditions. Travel throughout California as needed, gather and analyze facts and evidence, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, make appropriate recommendations, respect diversity, and treat all people with respect and impartiality. Minimum Requirements INVESTIGATOR Special Requirements Drug Screening clearance must be obtained prior to hiring. Background Investigation clearance must be obtained prior to hiring. Medical Clearance must be obtained prior to hiring. Psychological Evaluation clearance must be obtained prior to hiring. Desirable Qualifications Investigative experience with criminal and/or administrative investigations. Willingness to conduct field work and interact with the public in a variety of settings. Possession of a POST Basic certificate or completion of a POST Certified Basic Academy within the past two years. Benefits Continuous and ongoing training.
