Administrative Intern
The Port of Long Beach is seeking two (2) administrative interns in the Construction Management Division. The Port of Long Beach is an international gateway for the reliable, efficient and sustainable movement of goods and is a leader in environmental stewardship. The Construction Management Division is responsible for managing construction and professional services contracts awarded by the Board of Harbor Commissioners, and managing the Port's Labor Compliance Program. This is an unclassified (Non-Civil Service) position. Non-career positions typically average 20 hours per week, up to 29 hours a week, for a total of 1600 hours in a year for a maximum of two years.
Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, the Construction Management Intern performs routine engineering work. Technical tasks include collecting, compiling and analyzing statistical and technical data related to Construction Management activities. Interpersonal tasks include corresponding and communicating with internal Port employees and consultants via email, phone and live meetings.
Requirements to File
Required experience and qualifications include being currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a focus/emphasis in Civil Engineering, Construction Management and/or related field in a junior, senior standing or enrolled in a graduate level Civil Engineering or Construction Management program. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and areas of technical expertise is required. Familiarity with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other related applications is desired. Knowledge of Bluebeam software is desired. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as the ability to work independently are required. Good oral and written skills, and an ability to effectively communicate ideas in a clear, concise, and professional manner are required.
