Personal Lines Underwriter

Job Overview Auto-Owners Insurance is looking for a motivated underwriting trainee to join our team. The trainee will support the underwriting decision-making process in property and casualty insurance and will receive structured training and support to develop their underwriting knowledge and skills. Responsibilities Learn various insurance coverages, contracts, and company philosophy and procedures. Read, interpret, and respond to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements. Assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment. Analyze loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics of risks. Acquire a working knowledge of supporting sections of the underwriting department. Communicate effectively with independent agents and associates through verbal and written means. Participate in and successfully complete the Company underwriter training program. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience in property/casualty underwriting. Ability to organize data, multi-task, and make decisions independently. Above-average written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports and compose correspondence. Ability to resolve complex issues. Commitment to continually develop product knowledge through approved educational programs. Desired Skills & Experience Knowledge of insurance products and underwriting processes. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills. Team-player attitude and willingness to learn.
