We are seeking an experienced School-Based Behavioral Health Grant Program Director to lead the implementation and oversight of a grant-funded initiative serving students, schools, families, and community partners.

• New Hanover County, NC

• School-Based Services

• Travel to schools throughout New Hanover County

SCHEDULE:

• Full-Time | 40+ Hours Per Week

• Exempt

SALARY RANGE:

• $80,000–$85,000 annually

Position Summary

The School-Based Behavioral Health Grant Program Director serves as the primary point of contact and organizational lead for the grant award. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management, implementation, and oversight of grant activities, ensuring all goals, deliverables, reporting requirements, and compliance standards are met.

The Program Director develops and executes a strategic implementation plan, supervises grant staff, manages budget allocations, coordinates with internal and external partners, and ensures effective delivery of school-based mental health, substance use prevention, intervention, and recovery-focused services.

This role requires a strong understanding of school-based behavioral health, substance use prevention and treatment, trauma-informed care, data management, grant compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as the primary point person for the grant award , providing leadership and oversight of all project activities.

• Develop, implement, and monitor a strategic plan to achieve grant goals, objectives, and required deliverables.

• Oversee the day-to-day implementation of grant-funded programs and services within school settings.

• Ensure all grant requirements, policies, regulations, and reporting deadlines are met.

• Supervise and provide leadership to grant-funded staff and administrative personnel.

• Oversee grant budget allocations, expenditures, and adjustments to support effective implementation and compliance.

• Monitor program performance, outcomes, data collection, and reporting requirements.

• Prepare, review, and submit required grant reports and documentation.

• Coordinate with schools, educational teams, community agencies, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.

• Develop program materials, resources, procedures, and implementation tools.

• Facilitate staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

• Attend relevant community, school, agency, and professional meetings.

• Build and maintain strong interdepartmental and cross-agency partnerships.

• Identify implementation challenges and independently develop solutions to support successful project outcomes.

• Ensure services and activities are delivered in accordance with trauma-informed and evidence-informed practices.

• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

What You Bring

Required Education & Experience

• Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field .

• Experience overseeing the implementation of school-based mental health programs and services .

• Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery , gained through direct practice, research, or a combination of both.

• Experience with program implementation, staff supervision, grant management, or project leadership.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Expertise in delivering prevention and intervention services within school settings.

• Strong knowledge of substance use education, mental health services, trauma-informed care, and community referral resources.

• Understanding of grant administration, compliance, data management, and reporting.

• Strong training, facilitation, and presentation skills.

• Ability to build effective relationships across departments, schools, agencies, and community partners.

• Experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary educational teams.

• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem-solve, and work independently.

• Budget awareness and ability to monitor expenditures and compliance.

• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

Travel & Work Environment

• Regular travel to schools and community locations throughout New Hanover County is required.

• Position operates primarily within school-based and community settings and requires the ability to collaborate with educators, behavioral health professionals, families, students, and community partners.
