Backend Software Engineer

Role Overview

Apply your backend engineering expertise to create realistic, challenging coding tasks that help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. You will develop tasks involving feature implementation and bug fixes, then build deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject invalid ones. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Create coding tasks focused on backend feature development and bug resolution.
• Implement deterministic verification systems for submitted solutions.
• Use real-world engineering judgment to help improve how AI systems learn, reason, and perform.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience in Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++, or similar technologies.
• Experience building scalable services and APIs.
• Comfort with debugging, performance optimization, automated testing, code review, and codebase refactoring.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality, performant backend projects and resolve software bugs and system bottlenecks.
• Experience implementing complex features in large-scale applications.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and foundational computer science concepts.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.

Work Terms

• Remote independent-contractor engagement.
• Approximately 15 hours per week.
• Flexible schedule, with freedom to choose working days and hours, including weekends.
• Minimum weekly task-submission requirements apply.
• Roles are typically filled within 48 hours. Selected candidates should be ready to begin their first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding.

Compensation

• $30 to $100 per hour.
• Compensation is output-based and paid per task that meets project specifications. Time required may vary based on experience and workflow.

Application Process

• Complete an AI interview of approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
• Complete a technical assessment, if required, followed by hiring-manager review.
• Interview, assessment, and project work must be completed without outside assistance, as the evaluation is based on your own judgment and problem-solving.
