Fire Alarm Technician

Founded in 1980, SRI Fire Sprinkler is a full-service fire protection contractor operating across New York and Connecticut and serving customers throughout the Northeast and New England. The company specializes in the design, installation, inspection, maintenance, and retrofit of fire sprinkler, fire pump, standpipe, and special hazard suppression systems, supported by experienced estimators, project managers, technicians, and inspectors. Due to continued growth, we are looking to add a Fire Alarm Technician to our Mechanicville, NY team at 2392 Route 9. This role installs, programs, tests, inspects, services, and repairs fire alarm, fire suppression, and related life safety systems while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and customer requirements. Success in this role requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, technical knowledge, attention to detail, professional communication, and a commitment to safety and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, program, test, inspect, and service fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment.
• Install, program, test, inspect, and service fire suppression systems and related equipment.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance in accordance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Diagnose system issues and complete repairs efficiently to restore system functionality.
• Program and configure fire alarm control panels, releasing control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and networked systems.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and construction documents.
• Complete required testing and documentation, including inspection reports, service records, and deficiency reports.
• Communicate findings and recommended corrective actions to customers and internal team members.
• Coordinate with project managers, electricians, general contractors, and other trades as needed.
• Ensure work complies with applicable codes, including NFPA 72, the National Electrical Code, and Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.
• Maintain company tools, testing equipment, vehicles, and inventory in good working condition.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency service calls as required.
• Follow company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
• Provide professional customer service and maintain positive customer relationships.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience installing, servicing, or inspecting fire alarm systems.
• Working knowledge of fire alarm principles, electrical systems, and low-voltage wiring.
• Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of low-voltage circuits and fire alarm technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Ability to safely use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple service calls and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with mobile service applications and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems at Level I, II, III, or IV.
• Manufacturer certifications from Notifier, Edwards, Siemens, Honeywell, Silent Knight, Potter, Bosch, Gamewell-FCI, Simplex, or a similar manufacturer.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with integrated life safety or mass-notification systems.
• Knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70, and applicable local building and fire codes.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

• Lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Climb ladders and work at heights.
• Work in confined spaces and active construction environments.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity for extended periods.
• Distinguish wire colors accurately.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Work in commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and institutional facilities.
• Work in construction sites, mechanical rooms, and occupied buildings.
• Travel locally to customer locations, with occasional overnight travel based on business needs.
• Participate in an after-hours emergency service rotation as required.

The wage for this role is $32 to $36 per hour , based on experience and qualifications.
