FNP/PA: Job Responsibilities

PA/FNP will provide diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health services to patients. The following list is not comprehensive:

• Secure a health and development history from the patient or parent.
• Record findings and make critical evaluations.
• Personally perform or request special screening and developmental tests.
• Order laboratory tests and interpret the results.
• Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings.
• Make decisions with physicians concerning the medical care needs of patients.
• Provide direct medical care in the presence of illness or disability in order to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce distress, and enhance coping ability.
• Provide surveillance over medical practices applied to stabilize chronically ill persons.
• Adjust treatment within established standing orders recognizing when to refer the patient to a physician or other health team members.
• Work collaboratively with physicians in the management of selected complex medical problems.
• Participate with other health professionals and agencies involved in providing health care and services required to include immunization and disease control, environmental health, and health education.
• Provide emergency or crisis intervention in order to stabilize a patient for transport to a higher-level facility.
• Provide medical care and preventive services to healthy individuals.
• Evaluate total health care needs of patients and develop plans to meet these needs.
• Required information for use in program operation, quality control and other purposes.
• Participate in certain medical staff committee meetings as required.
• Comply with all Client facility infection control and safety procedures, practices, and standards.
• Respect the basic rights of patients, to include but not be limited to personal dignity.

FNP/PA: Qualifications

• Must hold an active, current, and unrestricted (unflagged) state FNP or PA license from the state of Hawaii.
• Must have valid, current board certifications if applicable (PA must be NCCPA certified).
• Must have a valid, unrestricted DEA with schedules II-V.
• Cannot be under exclusions or sanctions from the Medicare/Medicaid programs.
• Must speak Filipino, Tagalog or Ilocano.
