Job Summary for Surgical Technologist Non Certified




- Assists surgical team members during operative procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
- Prepares and maintains the operating room by arranging supplies, equipment, and sterile set-ups according to safety and infection control standards.
- Ensures integrity of sterile fields by opening supplies aseptically and monitoring for breaks in sterile technique.
- Checks and maintains equipment and supplies to ensure proper working order before each procedure.
- Performs surgical scrub duties and assists with preoperative care tailored to each patient and surgeon's needs.
- Prepares specimens for laboratory analysis during procedures.
- Assists with patient preparation, transfers, positioning, and counts in coordination with the registered nurse.
- Strictly adheres to safety and aseptic protocols , including company, ambulatory surgery center (ASC), and emergency procedures.
- Monitors environment for safety hazards and participates in the time-out process to ensure patient safety.
- Documents incidents involving employees or patients and reports unsafe conditions as necessary.
- Participates in quality and safety activities and maintains proper body mechanics at all times.
- Supports the team environment by participating in orientation, training, and providing backup as needed.
- Maintains and orders inventory , assists with room turnover, cleanup, and patient transport.
- Provides feedback for process and policy improvements to management.
- Demonstrates competencies in job knowledge, technical skills, communication, customer service, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, adaptability, stress management, initiative, and innovation.
- Qualifications include : High school diploma or GED, completion of an approved OR Surgical Technologist course, minimum one year of relevant experience, BLS certification (required), CST certification (preferred), and ophthalmology skills (required).
- Requires strong communication and reasoning skills , basic math abilities, knowledge of healthcare business practices, and proficiency with basic computer software.
- Must understand and protect patient confidentiality (PHI) at all times.







Ophthalmology-specific skills are required for this role.
