The Postdoctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Postdoctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned. Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories. Maintains substantial knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art principles and theories. Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions. Adheres to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Conduct biomedical research in mitochondrial molecular biology in health, disease and aging.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS

Design and conduct experiments to solve mitochondrial biology questions. Apply for fellowships. Prepare and apply an individual development plan. Communicate experimental results in conferences and research manuscripts.

DEPARTMENT PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or similar. Experience Completed PhD. No postdoctoral experience is required. If any, it should not be more than 2 years. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The selected candidate will study mitochondrial biogenesis and function in health and disease using human cell lines as well as the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism. We are interested in diverse molecular processes ranging from mitochondrial RNA structures to regulation of mitochondrial translation and the process of respiratory chain enzymes assembly. The selected candidate should be able to perform all kind of molecular biology and cell biology work. Experience in structural studies is a plus.
