We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations in Waterville, Maine. This is a Contract position suited for a detail-oriented candidate who can manage core financial tasks with accuracy and consistency. The role will contribute to maintaining reliable records, supporting month-end activities, and assisting with both payables and receivables as business needs evolve.

Responsibilities:
• Record and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial data across accounting periods.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure reporting accuracy.
• Process vendor invoices, prepare payments, and monitor outstanding obligations in a timely manner.
• Generate customer invoices, track incoming payments, and follow up on open balances when needed.
• Assist with month-end close activities, including account analysis and supporting documentation.
• Maintain organized financial records and help ensure accounting documentation is complete and audit-ready.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address transaction issues and improve day-to-day accounting workflows.
• Provide flexible support across accounting functions, including duties that may align with accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general staff accounting needs.• Experience handling journal entries and general ledger maintenance in an accounting environment.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
• Ability to reconcile accounts and identify errors or inconsistencies in financial records.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy when managing transactional data.
• Proficiency with common accounting systems and spreadsheet software.
• Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in an on-site setting.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
