Description:
The Speech Language Pathologist partners with residents and other care providers to provide Speech Language Pathology services.
The goal is to maximize the function and independence of residents in their daily activities.
Essential duties and responsibilities include supporting and promoting the mission and values of the organization.
Perform evaluative and therapeutic procedures under the order of a physician or other accepted healthcare provider.
Observe precautions, indications, and contraindications during procedures.
Provide evaluation and treatment for communication disorders and dysphagia, including modified barium swallow.
Evaluate residents per department protocols and establish a therapeutic plan of care.
The plan of care includes functional long- and short-term goals.
Specify frequency and duration of treatment in addition to rehabilitation potential.
Seek input from residents and primary caregivers regarding the therapeutic plan of care.
Consult with the referring physician and other members of the healthcare team regarding therapeutic and discharge needs.
Attend all pertinent team meetings.
Monitor and evaluate treatment effects and progress the treatment program toward the established functional goals.
Modify the treatment plan as necessary.
Document all evaluative and therapeutic interactions with the resident per department procedures.
Ensure documentation is accessible to others on the care team using clear language.
Recommend and obtain appropriate communication and swallowing assistive devices for residents.
Provide instruction on the use of all devices.
Offer education to residents or caregivers and document responses to teaching.
Understand Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
Maintain clinical knowledge, skills, and competence and share expertise with others.
Provide in-service training regarding clinical knowledge and skills to nursing and other departments.
Actively assist with the development of new programs and services in Speech Therapy.
Maintain clinical skills and competence by staying aware of professional updates.
Bring pertinent issues to the attention of staff.
Maintain required licenses, certifications, and competencies.
Complete annual compliance courses on time.
Coordinate and ensure Speech and Language coverage.
Ensure department cleanliness and maintenance by keeping office and clinical areas clean.
Assist with routine equipment and space cleaning.
Follow all infection control procedures.
Perform other duties consistent with this role as necessary.
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks associated with this position.
This includes a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.
The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Lifting or carrying over 50 pounds requires a two-person lift.
Frequent lifting/carrying of up to 20 pounds is expected.
Some stress is related to the high level of responsibility for quality care.
