Temporary Faculty Pool, Art & Design - Art History Job no: 557594 Work type: Instructional Faculty - Temporary/Lecturer Location: Dominguez Hills Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Faculty - Fine/Performing Arts, Temporary, Time Varies, On-site (work in-person at business location) Department of Art and Design – Art History College of Arts and Humanities Position Description The Department of Art and Design at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) offers three distinct B.A. degrees—one in Art, one in Art History, and one in Design. We invite highly qualified, motivated, and well‑organized applicants for a temporary pool of part‑time teaching appointments in all three of these areas. This application is for Art History instruction. We offer rich arts education and programming. The three B.A. degrees provide foundational knowledge, encourage creative exploration, and develop critical thinking skills and visual literacy. Graduating seniors from Design and Art organize presentations and exhibitions of their work as a final culmination of their endeavors. The B.A. in Art History students explore art from many eras and cultures. The B.A. in Design covers areas such as print, web, UI/UX, illustration, photography, motion design, and professional industry internships. The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term begins mid‑January and ends in mid‑May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Responsibilities Teach assigned courses in the department’s curriculum Serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load Qualifications Required Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching Applicants must have experience teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds Preferred Qualifications A Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper‑division Art History courses (300‑ or 400‑level) Employment Requirement Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, or if it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Salary and Benefit Information Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
